Preparations for SCO Summit in Pakistan: Decision to shut down Islamabad, Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to attend

Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif is reviewing the preparations for the summit.

​​​​​​​Preparations are underway for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2024 in Pakistan. A meeting was held for this on Sunday (October 13). According to the report, a decision is being taken to close the capital Islamabad for the summit.

In fact, the SCO summit is going to be held in Pakistan on October 15-16. But the Pakistan government is worried about the violent protests and political unrest by PTI activists.

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also participate in this summit. Apart from him, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and heads of other countries will participate in the summit.

Protests banned in the capital According to news agency AFP, protests have been banned in the capital Islamabad due to the summit in Pakistan. Permission has been given to deploy the army in the city. Apart from this, supporters of opposition leader Imran Khan have been arrested.

Imtiaz Gul, Executive Director and Senior Analyst, Center for Research and Security Studies said that this summit is very important for Pakistan. So the government is making adequate arrangements for security. Efforts are being made to ensure that the program is completed peacefully without any untoward incident.

Last week, Imran Khan's party workers demonstrated for his release.

Imran Khan's party warned of protests Opposition leader Imran Khan's Tehreek-e-Insafe party has warned of protests during the summit. In fact, Imran is in jail and his supporters have demonstrated several times demanding his release.

Earlier on October 5, Imran supporters demonstrated in Islamabad. After this the city was closed for 3 days. Along with shutting down the mobile network, roads leading out of the city were also closed.

A terrorist attack before the summit raised concerns Before the start of the summit, there have been 2 terrorist attacks in Pakistan. Because of this, questions have been raised about the security system. The first attack took place on October 6 near the Karachi airport. 2 Chinese citizens were killed in this attack. China demanded strict punishment for the culprits. Another attack took place on October 11 at a private coal mine in Balochistan province. In which 20 people died. According to Pakistani media Dawn, the attackers used several modern weapons, including rockets and hand grenades.
