Defending champions Rest of India's squad for Irani Cup 2024 has been announced. On Tuesday, Rituraj Gaikwad was made the captain of the 15-member team. Abhimanyu Iswaran is the vice-captain, Rshan Kishan has also been included in the squad. Ishan scored a century in the Duleep Trophy.
Rituraj Gaikwad captained India C in the Duleep Trophy. The team is second in the points table with 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw from 3 matches. He scored 232 runs in 3 matches. Irani Cup 2024 will pit Rest of India against 2023 Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai. The match will be played from October 1 to 5 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Jurel and Yash Dayal also in the team Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have also got a chance in the Rest of India team. Both these players are also in the Test squad for the Bangladesh series. If these players do not get a chance in the playing-11 in the Test match, they will be left out for the Irani Cup.
Rahane will captain Mumbai Mumbai handed over the captaincy to veteran Ajinkya Rahane for the Irani Cup. Mumbai won 41 Ranji Trophy titles till 2015-16. The team again failed to win the trophy in the next 6 tournaments. The team reached the final in 2016 and 2021, but lost to Saurashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
Last year again Ajinkya Rahane was out of Team India. After which Mumbai made him the captain of their Ranji team. The team performed brilliantly and won the Ranji Trophy title for the 42nd time by defeating Vidarbha in the final. The team's title win has come after 6 years.
