The Indian women's team has created a major upset in the Asian Table Tennis Championship. The team confirmed the medal by defeating Paris Olympics bronze medal winners South Korea 3-2 in the quarter-final match and placing in the top-4.
Ahika Mukherjee played an important role in this victory. The world number 92 Indian defeated world number 8 Shin Yubin and world number 16 Jeon Jihee. The Indian women's team will face Japan on Wednesday.
With this win, the Indian women's team bagged its first medal in the Asian Championship organized by the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU). Indian women won bronze in the 1960 season organized by the current Table Tennis Federation of Asia. That means India has won a medal in the tournament after 64 years.
