Galle Test- Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 63 runs: Prabath Jayasuriya takes 9 wickets in the match; Williamson became New Zealand's top scorer

Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by 63 runs in the first Test match being played in Galle. On the fifth day on Monday, the New Zealand team could only add 4 runs to their yesterday's score of 207 runs and were bowled out for 211 runs. Spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was awarded the player of the match for taking 9 wickets in the match.

Chasing a target of 275 runs, New Zealand did not get off to a good start. The team lost their first wicket for 6 runs. Rachin Ravindra scored the highest 92 runs for the team. Prabhath Jayasuriya took 5 wickets and Ramesh Mendis 3 wickets for Sri Lanka in the second innings while Dhananjay de Silva and Asitha Fernando got 1 wicket each.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 309 runs in the second innings before the second session of the fourth day. Sri Lanka scored 305 runs in the first innings and in reply New Zealand scored 340 runs in the first innings.

Prabath took 9 wickets in the match Prabath Jayasuriya proved to be Sri Lanka's match winner. He took 4 wickets in the first innings and 5 wickets in the second innings. He dismissed Williamson, Blundell, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra and William O'Rourke. In bowling 30.4 overs, Prabhat bowled 7 maidens and took 5 wickets for 68 runs.

Fighting innings from Rachin Ravindra Rachin Ravindra scored the highest 92 runs in the second innings from New Zealand. He added 56 runs with Tom Blundell, but could not save the team from defeat. Rachin hit 9 fours and 1 six in his innings.

Williamson overtook Taylor Williamson has surpassed Ross Taylor in terms of scoring the most runs. Williamson has scored 18,213 runs in 525 innings of 359 matches in his international career. During this time he has scored 45 centuries and 98 half-centuries. Taylor scored 18,199 runs in 450 matches in his international career. He scored 40 centuries and 93 fifties in his career.

Kane Williamson became the highest run-scorer for New Zealand in all three formats.

Tom Latham scored 70, Daryl Mitchell 57 and Kane Williamson 55 for the team. Prabhath Jayasuriya took the most wickets from Sri Lanka with 4 and Ramesh Mendis 3 wickets.
