BCCI to review impact player, 2-bouncer rules: Both rules applicable only in IPL, set to roll out to domestic cricket from November

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to review the rule of impact player and 2 bouncers in an over. Currently, there is confusion among state associations whether to implement these rules in the upcoming domestic cricket. Especially the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which is going to start in November. Both these rules are applicable only in IPL. The rule of only two bouncers was introduced in domestic cricket last year. Now preparations are underway to apply the impact player rule in the domestic as well. However, both rules are not being used in international cricket. According to a report by cricket website Cricbuzz, after the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the impact player is being discussed around the world. Many senior cricketers are in support of these rules while many are opposing it. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently said that a decision on this will be taken soon and information will be given. Rules to be reviewed… Confusion in state association, Mushtaq Ali tournament to start in November The 2-bouncer rule was also introduced in the IPL after it was implemented in the domestic season last season, while the impact player was introduced from IPL-2023. But now the state association is confused whether these rules will be implemented in the next season or not. An official of the state association said the impact player and 2 bouncer rules are the main points of BCCI's review. However, no decision has been taken in this regard yet. The board announced the rules, guidelines and playing conditions for domestic cricket 3 weeks ago. It was then said that all associations would be informed about these rules soon, but the state association had no information as to whether these 2 rules would continue. Debate on impact player continues… Some of Team India's senior players came to the rescue, while some protested.Three days ago, on Wednesday, August 28, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin supported the impact player rule. On the other hand, after the IPL-2024 season, several players including Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Australian legend Aaron Finch and Ricky Ponting criticized the rule.
