In Kolkata on Saturday (August 31), a drunk broke into the doctors' night protest near Rabindra Bharati University. His bike had a Kolkata Police sticker on it. The accused hit one of the agitating students with a bike and injured him. The accused on the bike is a civic volunteer of the police, just like the accused who raped the woman doctor. The incident took place at 2 pm. The policeman present there let him go without taking any action. After this, doctors jammed BT Road for 5 hours demanding his arrest. According to the Kolkata Police, an FIR was registered in this regard on Saturday morning and the accused has been arrested. Also, he has been dropped from the civic volunteer team. The Kolkata High Court has ordered the state police to release student Sayan Lahiri, who is protesting the Kolkata rape-murder case. He was accused of holding Nabanna rally without permission. Many policemen were injured during the violence in this rally. The court reprimanded the police saying that the authorities should handle the issue sensitively and not target the protesters and stop them from agitating. The police should understand that there is public anger over the Kolkata rape-murder case. In fact, West Bengal Student Society activists staged a protest against the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor on 27 August. The 'Nabanna Abhiyan' protest turned violent, with over 100 students and 25 policemen injured. Police arrested Sayan Lahiri on charges of violence. Meanwhile, the TMC will hold a protest in the state today demanding the execution of the accused in the Kolkata rape-murder case. CM Mamata will lead the demonstration. The TMC is demanding the central government to pass a law providing capital punishment to the accused. The student's mother said that her son was troubled by the incident at the college. Lahiri's mother filed an application in the High Court against her son's arrest. He said that his son was not associated with the West Bengal student society nor had he led any rally. He was very disturbed by the incident in the medical college. For this reason, Bus participated in the students' demonstration. While ordering the student's release, the court said that if the incident had not happened in the medical college, the West Bengal student society would not have existed. Thousands of ordinary people joined the protest rally. The petitioner's son would have played an active role and raised a little more voice than the other protestors. This does not mean that the petitioner's son is the leader of the rally.
