Kolkata rape-murder case, Ghosh gives contracts to his accomplices: cafe contract to organization linked to guard's wife, two drug peddlers involved in financial malfeasance

New revelations have emerged in the financial-administrative malpractice case against Sandeep Ghosh, the arrested former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. CBI sources said on Saturday (September 7) that Ghosh was running a 'criminal nexus' along with his close guard and two drug dealers. A CBI official said – apart from Ghosh, three accused were arrested in the financial malpractice case. Two of these accused (Biplab Singha and Suman Hazra) are vendors close to Ghosh. Both of them were given contract of medical college and hospital. Suman Hazra, a medical vendor, got the contract for sofas and fridges, when as per rules Suman could only supply medicines. Apart from this, Ghosh gave the contract of a cafe in the hospital to an organization associated with his guard's wife. 3 revelations about financial irregularities in CBI probe 1. Biplab Sinha and Suman Hazra were earlier associated with Murshidabad Medical College. Ghosh was also at Murshidabad Medical College between 2016 and 2018. After becoming the principal of RG Kar Hospital, both got many contracts. After joining Ghosh, Suman Hazra's business grew 3 times in 2021-22. He ran a firm called Hazra Medical. 2. Biplab Singha controlled and operated several companies including Ma Tara Traders, Baba Loknath, Tiyasha Enterprises. He himself ran some of these firms. Some companies were run by his friends and relatives. Biplab used to apply for hospital tenders through these companies. He used to apply from all the firms for the tender so that there could be competition in the market. After this any firm of Biplab would get a tender. 3. The CBI has also found several flaws in the manner in which the tender was awarded to Biplab's firm. The CBI said that work order letters were written to several college officials, but these letters were never handed over to them. This means that other officials were not included in the tender process. Bengal Medical Council issues notice to Ghosh over financial irregularities The West Bengal Medical Council on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to former principal Sandeep Ghosh over financial irregularities in health facilities. Medical Council official said- Ghosh has been given 3 days time. Medical registration can be canceled in case of serious financial irregularities, but before cancellation, notice is given and reply is sought. CBI probe reveals- Sandeep Ghosh ordered renovation the day after the incident On September 5, CBI probe revealed that Sandeep Ghosh ordered the renovation of a room adjacent to the seminar hall the day after the rape-murder of a trainee doctor. The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall on the morning of August 9. According to sources, the CBI has received documents which confirm that Sandeep Ghosh had written to the state Public Works Department (PWD) on August 10 to renovate the rooms and toilets adjacent to the seminar hall. This approval letter is also signed by Ghosh. Investigating officials say the renovation letter shows that Ghosh was in a hurry to get the job done, so the document could not help link the rape-murder case to the RG Kar College financial malpractice case. The doctor's parents also took part in the protest late on Wednesday night against the rape-murder of the trainee doctor. The victim's father said- the police is trying to suppress this case from the beginning. We had to wait at the police station until the dead body was taken for post-mortem. Later, when the daughter's body was handed over to us, a senior police officer offered us money.
