Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, was allegedly slapped by a man from the crowd. The protesters raised slogans of 'Chor-Chor' and demanded that Ghosh be hanged. Police and central forces brought the situation under control. The incident happened on Tuesday. Ghosh was then brought to Alipore court to appear. He is accused of financial malpractice in RG Kar Medical College. The CBI is investigating the case on the direction of the High Court. The court sent Ghosh and three others to CBI custody for 8 days. He was arrested on August 2. After this, the state health department suspended Ghosh. Earlier on August 28, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) canceled the membership of Sandeep Ghosh. A trainee doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College on the night of August 8-9. Demonstration of junior doctors against this incident has been going on for 27 days. They are demanding the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. The Center has alleged that the Bengal government is not providing transport and accommodation to the CISF troops deployed to guard the RG Kar Hospital. On August 21, 92 CISF personnel have been deployed to protect the RG tax on the orders of the Supreme Court. There are also 54 women in it. They have not even found a place to keep weapons. Doctor said – Police are afraid of us The protesting doctors allege that the police have been negligent in the investigation of the rape-murder case from the beginning. They demanded the resignation of Police Commissioner Goyal along with his picture. After stopping at Bibi Ganguly Street, the doctors also burnt the effigy of the Police Commissioner. A doctor sitting at the protest told news agency PTI – We didn't know that the Kolkata police were so scared of us that they would put up a 9-feet high barricade to stop us. Our agitation will continue till we are allowed to reach Lalbazar and meet the Commissioner. Until then we will sit here. Doctors chant Go Back slogans against BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay, a former Calcutta High Court judge and sitting MP, reached the protest site on Monday to support the protesters. However, the doctors created an uproar after seeing him. Go back slogans were also raised. On this the BJP MP said that he misunderstood me, I have come here as a common citizen to support him. I am not against them. Gangopadhyay also appealed to the Commissioner of Police to meet the doctors. He said – why is the commissioner not coming? These people are doctors, not gangsters. A case has been registered against TMC MLA for calling doctors butchers On the other hand, a complaint has been registered against TMC MLA Lovely Maitra for commenting on doctors. The TMC MLA compared doctors to butchers. TMC MLA Lovely Maitra said, 'Doctors are becoming butchers in the name of protest. Poor and deprived people from hinterland and rural areas of Bengal come for treatment in government hospitals. People are worried about not getting treatment in private hospitals. It is not being treated. Are they (doctors) human? Is this humanity?' Abhishek Banerjee asks party leaders to avoid controversial statements According to sources, TMC has prohibited its leaders from making such statements. TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee has also warned his party leaders to avoid this. He wrote in a post on X, 'I request all TMC leaders not to speak ill of medical people or anyone in society. Everyone has the right to protest and express their views. This makes West Bengal different from other BJP-ruled states.
