Country Monsoon Tracker: Heavy rain alert in 38 districts of MP including Bhopal-Jabalpur; 4 rivers flooded in UP, 190 villages flooded

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain in 10 states on Monday (September 16). Heavy rain is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand.

Heavy rain alert has been issued in 38 districts including Bhopal and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Also, heavy rain has been predicted in 15 districts of Rajasthan from tomorrow.

Due to heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh for the last 5 days, Saryu, Sharda, Ganga and Ghaghra rivers have flooded. 25 thousand people have been affected by the flood in Varanasi. 85 ghats have sunk in Ganga.

In Lakhimpur, 1 lakh people in 170 villages are stranded as the Sharda river is flowing above the danger mark. 3 people have died due to drowning in Ghaghra river in Gonda. 20 villages here have been flooded.

So far 171 people have died in monsoon in Himachal Rainy conditions will continue in Himachal Pradesh till September 21. On Wednesday (September 18) 6 districts of the state are warned of heavy rain and lightning. So far this monsoon season, 171 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state. 30 people are still missing.

Weather pictures across the country…

For the first time in the season in Varanasi, the Ganga is flowing above the alarming level. 85 ferries have sunk.

Rivers Ganga and Yamuna have flooded in Prayagraj. Due to flooding, people are leaving their homes and reaching safe places.

Many areas of South 24 Parganas of West Bengal received rain.

85 ghats have become inundated due to rising water level of Ganga in Kashi.

There was heavy rain in West Bengal's Nadia on Sunday. There is a rain alert here today.

Heavy rain alert in 7 states on September 17

  • The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala on September 17.
  • Very heavy rainfall (up to 12 cm) is likely over East Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rainfall (7 cm) is likely over Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttarakhand.

This time monsoon will be active for 16 days more than usual

  • Normally, Monsoon starts departing West Rajasthan after September 18, but this time it is likely to remain active for about 16 more days.
  • This means that the country may receive heavy rainfall till the end of September. According to the private weather agency Skymet, rains are likely in October after the departure of monsoon.
  • According to the Meteorological Department, 108 percent or 8 percent more rain has been received so far this monsoon. However, almost a fourth of the country i.e. 185 districts (26%) are under drought conditions.
  • There are 68 districts that have received 60% of the normal rainfall, 19 of which are in Rajasthan alone. The most affected are Uttar Pradesh (30 districts), Bihar (25), Jharkhand (11), Odisha (11), Punjab (15).

Reason for Monsoon to remain active for 16 more days

  • According to the Meteorological Department, a depression has formed over North-West Uttar Pradesh. It is moving towards Uttarakhand. It will also affect some parts of Himachal Pradesh.
  • There is a new low pressure area near South Bangladesh, which will turn into a depression in 2 days. This will be the fourth depression of the season. Due to which there will be rain in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Madhya Pradesh: Alert in 38 districts including Bhopal-Jabalpur, 8% above normal rainfall in the state

Due to the low pressure area activated from Bay of Bengal and Monsoon, the whole of Madhya Pradesh will remain a rainy palace for the next 3 days. The impact of this system will be seen more in the eastern region of the state. 38 districts including Bhopal and Jabalpur are on alert for heavy rain on Monday. Indore and Ujjain divisions may also receive rain.

Rajasthan: Rainy season will start again from tomorrow, Monsoon will be active in districts of Bharatpur division

Monsoon, which has been weak for three days in Rajasthan, will be active again from September 17. Many districts of Bharatpur, Kota and Jaipur divisions may experience light to moderate rains from September 17 to 19. Meteorologists are considering this as the last rain of this monsoon season.
