Bengal govt to introduce new anti-rape law: Cabinet approves; To be introduced in the Assembly on September 3; Mamata said – only one punishment for rapists – hanging, hanging, hanging

​​​​​​After the rape-murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, the West Bengal government is bringing a new law for such crimes. On Wednesday (August 28), the West Bengal Cabinet approved a proposal to introduce a new bill to prevent rape and provide for stricter punishment. The bill will be introduced in the assembly next week. Cabinet member and state agriculture minister Shobhandev Chattopadhyay said he would request Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay to convene a two-day special session of the assembly from September 2. Chattopadhyay said that the new bill will be presented in the assembly on September 3. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that she will change the law in the state to make the death penalty mandatory for rape. The amendment will be passed in the Assembly next week. There should be only one punishment for rape – hanging, hanging, hanging. Mamata was addressing the program on the foundation day of her party's student wing. Mamata further said that the Trinamool Congress will start an agitation from August 31 to pressurize the Center to give capital punishment to the rapists. Mamata accuses PM, Modi's chair will fall if Bengal burns Mamata said at a rally in Kolkata that some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh. They talk like us and our culture is same, but remember Bangladesh is a different country and India is a different country. Mamata accused PM Narendra Modi of setting fire to the state over the protests and arson during BJP's Bengal Bandh. He said – Modi Babu is burning Bengal by using his party in Kolkata's rape-murder case. Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi will also burn. We will throw away your chair. Assam CM Himanta said- How dare you scare us? Regarding this statement of Mamata, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted her and said that how dare you scare Assam? Sarma in a post on X said Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us red eye. Don't even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language.
