'Siddhi Ine Jai Vare, Je Parseve Nhay': The Struggle Story of Film Industry Famous Director Rohit Shetty'; First Earned ₹35, Today Owner of ₹336 Crore Assets

'When I was very young, my father's shadow was removed from my head, aware of the condition of the house. Due to this he took the responsibilities of the family on his shoulders. Worked day and night. Worked in 3-3 shifts in a day, so that there is no shortage of work. People think I didn't struggle. Like other stragglers, I have faced many things, but never stopped. After stumbling so many times, he was afraid, but kept moving forward.

It means that Rohit Shetty is one of the most famous directors in the film industry. Rohit is known for his brilliant films like Golmaal, 'All the Best' and 'Singham'. However, there was a time when he received only Rs 35 as fee. Now Rohit's recently released film 'Singhan Again' is creating new records at the box office.

Rohit's journey from land to sky, in his own words…

After his father's death, when his financial situation worsened, he started earning money. Rohit said that he decided to enter films after seeing his father. Said, 'My childhood was spent like any other normal child. My father worked as a stunt director in films. He also acted in some films. At that time he was very famous in the industry. There was always a filmy atmosphere in the house. Whenever I went out with him, I only heard about films. This was the reason why we were not introduced to any other world except this one. I had decided in my childhood that I would do the work that my father was doing.

However, everything changed after the death of the father. I was young when he died. Over time, the financial condition of the family also deteriorated. That's why I started working very early. Secondly, there was also an obsession to do better in the world of films.

The woman in the yellow circle is Rohit's mother. He also acted in many films.

Entered the industry at the age of 17 Rohit was 17 when he entered the industry. Despite Rohit's recognition in the film world, he too had to struggle to get work. Many times it happened that he had no money at all. For this reason, he used to travel many kilometers on foot and in local trains even in hot summers. Sometimes even food had to be compromised.

About this he said, 'I started working at the age of 17. Initially I had made up my mind that I would either become an action director or a director. Like other stragglers, I too had to struggle during such a long journey. Like others, I had to weave many papads to get work. Made the first film, which did not do well. Then 'Golmaal' was created, which created history. I have done 16 films so far. Maybe if covid hadn't come, more would have been made (laughs)…'

At the beginning of his career, he also ironed the clothes of stars Rohit started his career as an assistant director. His first earnings were only 35 rupees. However, even after this, Rohit did not stop struggling and working hard. He also had to do other menial jobs, which he did. He worked on ironing the sarees of the actress. Not only this, he also worked as a spotboy for some time.

To this he said, 'Yes, it is true. See what happens that every little job has to be done by the assistant director. Another thing is that the budget of any film at that time was not very high. The unit was small. For this reason each assistant had to do a lot of work. Not only me, many have done this kind of thing.

No work was taken lightly at that time. All kinds of work was done including ironing the actress's sarees.

Rohit was scared when his first film flopped, fortunes changed with 'Golmaal' Ajay Devgan started his production house with films like 'Dil Kya Kare' and 'Raju Chacha'. Rohit also joined Ajay and started working as an assistant director. 'Raju Chacha' was a big budget film, but the film did not do well. Due to this, Ajay Devgan suffered a lot. Ajay and Rohit had to close the production house for two years. After paying back all the loans, they directed 'Zamin' together.

Rohit made his directorial debut with the 2003 film Zameen. However, this film also did not do well. Due to the constant flop films, many directors and actors started to shy away from working with Rohit.

Regarding this, Rohit said, 'It is natural to feel bad when a film is not doing well. Then while making another film, many kinds of questions arise in the mind. There is also a dilemma in the mind whether the producer-actor will work with you or not. There is also self-doubt.

After the release of the first film Zameen, work on the script continued for a year and a half and in 2005, work began on the film 'Golmaal'. Then this film released in 2006 changed my entire career.

Although I never thought of quitting the industry during this period, I kept feeling defeated. At the beginning of my career I was not settled in the industry. Because of this there was nothing to lose. My only intention was to engage people with low budget comedy films like 'Golmaal', 'All the Best'.

He became the first filmmaker in the Hindi film industry to introduce a concept like the Universe. Rohit is the first filmmaker in the Hindi film industry, who brought the concept of universe to films. He never planned this though. He said, 'Never thought of this before. Till 2016 I had no such thoughts in my mind. The idea didn't come until 'Singham', 'Singham Returns', but while making the film 'Simmba' the idea came that we could create something like a cop universe. We were lucky that our idea succeeded.
