Netflix bends, modifies series IC 814: Hijackers' real names now included, controversy over terrorists' Hindu codenames 'Bhola' and 'Shankar'

Netflix has had to bow out amid controversies. The Anubhav Sinha-directed webseries IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, which released last week, has been forced to make changes. Now Netflix has decided to include the real and code names of the hijackers in the opening disclaimer of this series. An official statement has now been released after Netflix's content head Monica Shergill was sacked by the Union government's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Accordingly, the real and codenames of the hijackers have been included in the opening disclaimer for the viewers who are unaware of the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 in 1999. The codenames in the series are the names used during the actual events. We are committed to convey every story in its original form.' According to reports, the ministry meanwhile told Monica Shergill that no one has the right to hurt the sentiments of the people of the country. After this, Netflix assured the ministry of the change through a content review and said that all future content aired on its platform will be in accordance with the sentiments of the country. The turn of events forced Netflix to issue a disclaimer that a Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Delhi High Court on Monday, seeking a ban on the OTT series 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack'. The petitioner accused the filmmakers of tampering with facts. This petition was filed by Hindu Sena President Surjit Singh Yadav. He said the series featured Hindu names of terrorists, including 'Bhola' and 'Shankar', other names for Lord Shiva. While their real names were something else. The petition said that this has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community. What was the whole matter? The real names of the terrorists who hijacked this Indian Airlines plane coming from Kathmandu to Delhi on 24 December 1999 were Ibrahim Akhtar, Shahid Akhtar, Sunny Ahmed, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir. During the hijacking, they called each other by the code names of 'Chief', 'Burger', 'Doctor', 'Bhola' and 'Shankar'. These codenames were kept unchanged in the webseries. Objection was raised on the names of 'Bhola' and 'Shankar'. After this there was a demand to boycott this series on social media. Controversy over the series, understand in 3 points 1. The hijackers were named Ibrahim Akhtar, Shahid Akhtar, Sunny Ahmed, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir, but in the webseries their names have been changed to Bhola, Shankar, Chief, Doctor and Burger. He assigned series director Anubhav Sinha to social media platform X. He said that the experience resorted to a leftist agenda to hide its wrongdoings. The abductors of IC 814 were notorious terrorists. He adopted fictitious names to hide his Muslim identity. What is the story of the series? The story of this series is based on the true incident of 24 December 1999. Five terrorists hijacked Indian Airlines flight IC 814, carrying 176 passengers, while en route from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport to New Delhi. Terrorists take the plane to Kandahar via Amritsar, Lahore, Dubai. The passengers were held hostage for seven days. What is the condition of the passengers inside the plane during this period?
