Diljit@41: Challenged Govt to ban liquor if there is controversy over lyrics; Fell in love at 8, left home at 11

If the government declares all the states of our country as dry state, from the very next day I will not sing songs on alcohol for the rest of my life.

Diljit Dosanjh performed a concert in Hyderabad on 15 November 2024. Even before the concert, he received a notice from the Telangana government that he should not use words like liquor on stage. After which, during the Gujarat concert, Diljit challenged the government by talking about getting a notice.

Diljit Dosanjh has performed concerts in 36 cities of the country and the world under his 'Dil-Luminity Tour'. 7 lakh 42 thousand tickets have been sold for his concert. When he met PM Modi on the occasion of New Year, the PM praised him and said that he wins people's hearts.

Diljit was born in the year 1984

Daljit changed his childhood name to Diljit Diljit's life was full of difficulties. The financial condition of the family was not good. Diljit could not read and write so his inclination towards singing grew.

Diljit was born on 6 January 1984 in Dosanj Kalan village in Jalandhar district of Punjab. Diljit's childhood name was Daljit Singh. He changed his name to Diljit and added the village name Dosanj to the name. Recently PM Modi also praised the name of Diljit. Diljit's father Balbir Singh was an employee of Punjab Roadways, while mother Sukhwinder was a housewife.

Diljit said, I liked a girl during my school days and because of my friends I told her that she will marry me. The girl complained to the teacher. After which the teacher called my parents. Many reports claim that Diljit is married to Sandeep Kaur and has a son. However, both got divorced in the year 2017. However, Diljit is often shy about talking about his personal life, relationships and affairs.

He was forcibly sent away by his parents at the age of 11 When singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh was 11 years old, he was sent to his maternal uncle's house in Ludhiana. Diljit didn't want to go to town with Mama. He wanted to stay with his parents in the village grounds, but no one asked him if he wanted to go to Ludhiana or not, just sent him away. Everyone liked Diljit's voice while doing kirtan, so people encouraged him to sing outside. After this, Diljit came out of the Gurudwara and started singing at the wedding ceremony. By singing in this way, he entered the Punjabi music industry.

Both the first music album and the film flopped Today Diljit may be a star in the music industry, but his first music album was a flop. His first film 'The Lion of Punjab' was also a flop at the box office. Although the song 'Lak 28 Kudi Da' released in 2011 was a big hit, this song is still famous among the youth. The song made Diljit popular, but after the first film flopped, Diljit decided to stop working in films.

About this he said that before the release of my first film, the second film was already shot. Then I thought I won't do films anymore, only songs are good, but another film hit, then I thought this is also good.

Had no money to go to the show, borrowed Rs 150 from a friend Diljit also faced financial crisis in the initial period of his career. They did not even have money to travel from one city to another. Sharing this incident in an old conversation, Diljit said, I had to go to an event in Chandigarh and I didn't even have money to go there. Then my childhood friend Tajinder Singh Kohli gave me 150 rupees to go there.

Even after his success, Diljit did not forget Kohli's friendship and always kept him with him.

Debut in Bollywood as a playback singer did Moving forward in his career, Diljit entered Bollywood as a playback singer. He sang for the movie 'Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya'. Then he lent his voice in more films.

After this Diljit Dosanjh worked as an actor in Bollywood. In the year 2016, he also came into limelight for his role in his first Hindi film 'Udta Punjab'. In this he worked with big stars like Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor. Diljit's acting in his very first Hindi film was highly praised.

People used to say that you will not get a hero's role in Bollywood with a turban. I thought if this is the case then no problem, I won't do the film, but then I got an offer for the film myself.

Not knowing English, he could not give an interview to Vogue magazine Diljit has said many times that he does not know English at all. He tried many times to learn English, but he could not succeed. While sharing the story in an interview, Diljit said that he could not give an interview with Vogue magazine for the film 'Good News' because of the English language.

Diljit jokingly continued – I was surprised when they called me to London for just one photoshoot, photoshoots can be done anywhere, but it was a one-on-one interview and that too in English, so I was on it quietly. After that, he left. I neither gave an interview to Vogue nor did a photoshoot.

CONTROVERSY- 1

In the year 2020, a Twitter war broke out between Diljit and Kangana during the farmers' agitation. Both said a lot to each other. The whole controversy started with a post of Kangana. While sharing a photo of Mahinder Kaur, an old woman from Bathinda during the farmers' movement, the actress called her the grandmother of the Shaheen Bagh movement. In response to which Diljit tweeted a lot.

Dispute – 2 In June 2020, Diljit Dosanjh also ran into controversy when Congress MP Ravneet Bittu objected to his song Rangrut. He alleged that these songs were trying to promote Khalistan's agenda. Not only this, he appealed to the Congress workers to file a sedition complaint against him.

In response to this, Diljit Dosanjh released a video and said – 'The objected song is from the 2014 film Punjab 1984. The film and its songs were cleared by the Censor Board. If there was anything objectionable in it, why did the censor board pass it? I pay tax in India and always stand with India.

Dispute – 3 Diljit Dosanjh performed a concert in Indore on 8 December 2024 as part of the Dil-Luminati tour. Meanwhile, he congratulated AP Dhillon and Karan Aujla for their India tour. Diljit said that two more of my brothers AP Dhillon and Karan Aujla have also started touring the country. Now the time of independent music has started in the country.

On one hand, people praised Diljit on social media for this statement, on the other hand, AP Dhillon slammed him. AP Dhillon reacting to Diljit's statement at his Chandigarh concert said that I want to say a small thing to Diljit bhai first unblock me from Instagram and then talk to me.

Dispute – 4 Diljit Dosanjh's concert was scheduled to be held in Chandigarh on 14 December 2024. He made this known on social media before the concert, but in the process he spelled Punjab as 'PANJAB', after which there was a controversy. The singer clarified this by tweeting. He wrote, 'If someone wants to plant a flag with Punjab in one tweet, it is a conspiracy. Controversy arose when a tweet mentioned the Bengaluru event. If Punjab is written as 'Panjab' it is a conspiracy. Whether Punjab is written as 'Punjab' or 'Panjab', Punjab will always be Punjab.

Dispute – 5 On 28 September 2024, Diljit held a concert in Manchester. Meanwhile, he gifted a shoe to one of his Pakistani fans. The video of Diljit's concert went viral on social media. In the viral video, a girl comes on stage, Diljit autographs her and gives her shoes. After that they ask where are you from? The girl replies by saying from Pakistan, after which Diljit says – see Hindustan-Pakistan, it's the same for us. Punjabis have love for everyone in their hearts. These borders are created by politicians. Be it Punjabi speaking people or people who love Punjabi dialect, be it here or there, all are equal to us. Welcome to people from my country India and also welcome to people from Pakistan. After this statement of Diljit, some people praised him while some trolled him.

Controversy – 6 On 15 November 2024, Diljit held a concert in Hyderabad. Controversy – 7 On 14 December 2024, Diljit held a concert in Chandigarh. A large number of people thronged the show. During Diljit Dosanjh's live show, dozens of people bought liquor from stalls in the market and drank in the open, with policemen standing by as silent spectators. During the live show, senior to junior employees were present on duty, but no one stopped them from consuming alcohol. When a case is registered and an arrest is made for drinking in the open.

The policemen were only focused on Diljit Dosanjh's program. On which Diljit said – Instead of bothering us, the venue and management should be decided. I would like to tell the concerned authorities that there is no infrastructure for live shows in India. Diljit says that his set was not prepared according to the live show. They want their set to take center stage and their fans to surround them. Until this happens, he will not perform the concert.

Of these, a total of 3 lakh 30 thousand tickets have been sold for the singer's concert in India. During the Dil Luminati tour, the singer performed in 12 cities in India.
