Two children from Dubai bought JioHotstar.com domain: Delhi app developer had asked for ₹ 1 crore from Reliance, the company had said – will take legal action.

The controversy that started regarding JioHotstar.com domain has taken a new turn. An anonymous app developer from Delhi has sold this domain to two children in Dubai.

The app developer had purchased the domain in 2023 when JioCinema-Hotstar merger talks had just begun. The developer felt that the JioHotstar.com domain would be the best option for the company formed after the merger.

  • The controversy over this domain started when the anonymous app developer posted a letter on https://jiohotstar.com. Through the letter, he demanded Rs 1 crore from Reliance in exchange for giving the domain.
  • The developer wrote in the letter that he will give this domain to Reliance only when the company funds him for further studies. The developer wanted to raise funds towards tuition fees to study an EMBA at Cambridge University.
  • The developer said that Reliance's Assistant Vice President (Commercials) Ambujesh Yadav had contacted him and discussed about the domain, but he has rejected the offer. Reliance asked to take legal action regarding the domain name.
  • On Saturday, there was a new landing page on JioHotstar.com stating that Jainam and Jeevika, two Dubai-based siblings, have purchased the domain from the young software developer to support them.
  • Jainam and Jeevika also made a video about purchasing the domain. In this he told that this is much less than the amount of funds required by the app developer, but we wanted to help him so we bought the domain.

Jainam and Jeevika create content related to toys and games

Jainam and Jeevika have a YouTube channel where they create DIY content about toys and games. An NGO is also registered in his name – Jainam Jeevika Foundation. The directors of the foundation are Kantilal Shankarlal Jain and Shobha Kantilal Jain.

The merger of Reliance Industries' Viacom 18 and Walt Disney's Star India may be completed by November this year. This merger was announced in February this year. Under the deal, Viacom 18 will be merged into Star India.
