After the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, the demand for the removal of President Mohammad Shahabuddin has intensified. According to the Bangladeshi news Daily Star, thousands of people gathered in front of the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the capital Dhaka. He was upset with Sheikh Hasina's statement about her resignation.
President Shahabuddin said in an interview on Sunday-
I just heard that Sheikh Hasina has resigned as Prime Minister. But I have no evidence regarding his resignation. I tried many times to get his resignation but maybe he didn't have time for that.
Demonstrators said the president had lost his moral right to remain in office. The protesters demanded that the President should step down within 2 days. After the crowd turned violent, the police lathi-charged and fired tear gas canisters.
At least 5 people were injured in the stampede. He has been admitted to the hospital. Police said the protesters started pelting stones at them, so they took strict action.
Leaders of the student movement came to pacify the demonstrators. He has sought an extension of 2 days.
The student leader said- the President will be removed in 2 days According to the Dhaka Tribune, Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, two leaders associated with the movement, reached out to the demonstrators on Tuesday night as the protests intensified after President Shahabuddin's statement. He appealed to the people to leave there. The student leaders promised the people that there would be a major change in power in the country within two days.
Student leader Hasnat said they will talk to political parties in the presence of the army chief and choose a new president by Thursday. He said that if a new president is not chosen by Thursday, he will take to the streets with the people.
