After Rahul's announcement, Priyanka said – I will be very happy to represent Wayanad. I will not let Wayanad miss him (Rahul Gandhi). I will work hard. I will try my best to please everyone and be a good representative. I have a very old relationship with Rae Bareli and Amethi, it cannot be forgotten. I will also help my brother in Rae Bareli. We will be present at both Rae Bareli and Wayanad.

A person cannot be a member of two Houses simultaneously Under the Constitution, a person cannot be a member of Parliament or both Houses or both Houses of Parliament and the State Legislature simultaneously. Also he cannot represent more than one seat in one house. Under Article 101 (1) of the Constitution and Article 68 (1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, if a People's Representative wins an election from 2 seats, he has to vacate one seat within 14 days of the announcement of the election result. If no one vacates the seat, both his seats become vacant.

Here are the rules for vacating a Lok Sabha seat…

• If a member wants to resign from the Lok Sabha or any seat, he has to send the resignation to the Speaker of the House.

• If there is no Speaker or Deputy Speaker in the composition of the new Parliament, in such a case the candidate submits his resignation to the Election Commission.

• The Election Commission then sends a copy of the resignation letter to the Home Secretary.
