Rahul Gandhi to meet Congress leaders in Maharashtra: Review seat-sharing with MVA forces and party's preparations for assembly polls

This review meeting is also important because the Congress is currently facing electoral defeat in Haryana.

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is on a visit to Maharashtra on Monday. He will meet Congress leaders and review the preparations for the assembly elections. Maharashtra Congress president Nan Patole, Vijay Vadettiwar, Prithviraj Chavan, Balasaheb Thorat, Varsha Gaekwad and Ramesh Chennithala will attend the meeting.

According to party sources, Monday's meeting is of utmost importance as Rahul Gandhi wants to discuss sheet-sharing with Shiv Sena (Uddhav group) and NCP (Sharad Pawar), party campaign and review the selection of candidates for the assembly elections.

This review meeting is also important because the Congress is currently facing electoral defeat in Haryana. Rahul Gandhi expressed his displeasure with the leaders regarding the defeat in the Haryana elections. He said that the interest of the leaders in Haryana was taking over, due to which the interest of the party went down.

Party can contest election at 100-110 There are 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. According to sources, she is preparing to contest in 100-110 seats. However, it was reported that more than 1800 applications were received to get Congress ticket. This time most people have filed applications from Vidarbha and Marathwada regions.

Assembly elections will be held in Maharashtra before November 26 Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajeev Kumar held a press conference on September 28 regarding preparations for the Maharashtra assembly elections. He said that the term of Maharashtra Assembly is ending on November 26. The election process will be completed before this. The dates are expected to be announced next month.

Rajeev Kumar and Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu visited Maharashtra for two days. He reviewed the preparations for the assembly elections here. Had a meeting with District Election Officer, Superintendent of Police and other officials.

Apart from this, he met 11 parties including Shiv Sena, Shiv Sena UBT, MNS, BSP, AAP. All parties demanded that the election dates be announced keeping in mind festivals like Diwali, Dev Diwali and Chhath Puja.

The tenure of the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) government will end in November 2024

  • Currently there is a BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) government in Maharashtra. His tenure ends in November 2024. Elections may be held in October 2024. In 2019, elections were held on 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. BJP became the largest party in the state with 106 MLAs.
  • There was no talk of alliance between Shiv Sena and BJP regarding the post of Chief Minister. Shiv Sena formed the government with 56 MLAs, Congress with 44 MLAs and NCP with 53 MLAs forming Maha Vikas Aghadi. Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray became the Chief Minister.
  • In May 2022, Maharashtra government's Urban Development Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde revolted along with 39 MLAs. He joined BJP. On June 30, 2022, Eknath Shinde was sworn in as the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
  • With this the Shiv Sena party has been divided into two factions. One group belongs to the Shinde group and the other belongs to the Uddhav group. On February 17, 2023, the Election Commission ordered that the party name 'Shiv Sena' and the party's election symbol 'Dhanush and Arrow' remain with the Eknath Shinde group.
