Prime Minister Modi on Thursday attended the India-ASEAN Summit in Laos capital Viet Nam. Meanwhile, Modi also addressed the India-ASEAN Summit. Speaking at the summit he said-
I believe that 21st century is the century of India and ASEAN countries. Today, when there is conflict and tension in many parts of the world, friendship, dialogue and cooperation between India and ASEAN are very important.
Apart from this, he said, “I announced India's Act-East Policy. This policy has given new energy, direction and momentum to relations between India and ASEAN countries over the last decade.”
Modi also announced the launch of direct flights between India and Brunei in Laos. PM Modi attended the 10th India-ASEAN Summit in Laos.
Earlier, when he arrived in Laos, he was welcomed by Buddhist monks. Prime Minister Modi also watched Laos' Ramayana in Vientiane. PM Modi will participate in the East Asia Summit today. China, America and Russia will also participate in this conference.

Had bilateral talks with Japan and New Zealand
PM Modi held bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba in Vientiane this evening. After the meeting, PM Modi posted on X that he was happy to meet Japanese PM Ishiba. The two countries discussed enhancing cooperation in semiconductor infrastructure, connectivity, defense and other areas.
After this, PM Modi held bilateral talks with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. Modi also invited Christopher Luxon to visit India.
After the meeting, New Zealand PM Christopher said that he is an admirer of India, it is a country that he loves very much.
After these meetings, Modi attended a gala dinner at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonex Siphandon. He formally met several leaders during the dinner.

'The issue of Myanmar and China will be discussed'
The long-running civil war in Myanmar and regional tensions over the South China Sea are likely to be discussed at the East Asia Summit today. Both these issues are major challenges for ASEAN countries.
In February 2021, the Myanmar military overthrew the government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Since then, nearly 6,000 people have been killed and more than 3 million displaced in Myanmar.
This year there have been several clashes between China and the Philippines over a border dispute in the South China Sea. Vietnam last week accused China of attacking its fishermen in disputed areas of the South China Sea.
China has also sent patrol vessels to areas claimed by Indonesia and Malaysia.

PM Modi announced this policy during India ASEAN Summit in 2014. The policy is considered an upgraded version of former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao's Look East Policy, which he launched in 1992.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had visited South Asian countries Brunei and Singapore in September. President Draupadi Murmu also visited Timor-Leste in August.
