Mumbai handed over the captaincy to veteran Ajinkya Rahane for the Irani Cup. Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur will also be included in the squad. Shreyas participated in the Duleep Trophy, while Shardul is returning from injury. While Rahane was recently playing county cricket in England.
2023 Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai will take on Rest of India in the Irani Cup. The match will be played from October 1 to 5 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Shardul will return after the surgery Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur underwent surgery for an ankle injury in June this year. He was away from cricket for 3 months after the surgery. Shreyas will now be eyeing a comeback in the Indian team based on his good performances in Irani Cup and Ranji Trophy. After Bangladesh, Team India has to play a series of 3 Test matches against New Zealand.
Shreyas Iyer played his last Test for India in February this year.
Rest of India is also yet to be announced Mumbai has given information about its team captain and two important players. However, the Rest of India team has not been announced yet. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may also include the rest of the top players participating in the Duleep Trophy in Rest of India.
