Shreya Ghoshal postpones concert in Kolkata: Singer says, 'I am saddened by the doctor's rape-murder case, this incident has shaken me'

Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal has postponed the concert scheduled for September 10 in Kolkata. Shreya has said on Instagram that she has taken this decision because of the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. On August 9, a trainee female doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. Shreya's concert was scheduled to be held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. Shreya wrote in her post, 'I am deeply saddened by this heinous crime. As a woman, this incident has shaken me. My promoter and I want to postpone the concert scheduled for September.' The concert to be held on September 14 will now take place in October. Shreya further wrote, 'We were looking forward to this concert but it is also very important that we all take a stand against such things. I pray for the dignity and safety of women not only in the country but all over the world.' 'I hope my friends and fans will accept and understand our decision to go ahead with this concert. Please stand with me and my band as we stand united against the enemies of society.' Samantha also reacts on the rape case Before Shreya, popular South actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu gave her reaction on the Kolkata rape and murder case. Samantha was in Mumbai to attend an event where she was asked a question related to women's safety after the Kolkata case. Samantha called for change, saying, 'I think this is the need of the hour. We all are looking for a change because it is the need of the hour. I hope this change will come soon. Kareena Kapoor recently took to social media to compare this case with the Nirbhaya case that happened 12 years ago. He wrote in a post, 'Even after 12 years the story is the same and the protest is the same. But still we are waiting for change.' Preity Zinta wrote, 'We are the fifth largest economy in the world. It is extremely distressing to see the rapist's face covered at the time of arrest, while the victim's face and name are leaked everywhere in the media. “The pace of justice is never swift, punishment is never meted out, people are never held accountable.” Hrithik Roshan wrote on social media platform X, 'We need to create a society where everyone feels safe. But it will take decades. Hopefully the next generation will be better. Now the justice would be to impose a strict ban on such atrocities. The only way to do this is to give severe punishment to the accused so that such criminals are scared. This is what we need. I stand with the victim's family and demand justice for their daughter and also stand with the doctors who have been attacked.' Director Zoya Akhtar wrote, 'I look forward to the day when women can be safe and free.' Alia said- 'Women are not safe anywhere' Alia Bhatt shared a post on Instagram. He wrote, 'Another brutal rape. Another day when we were made to realize that women are not safe anywhere.' Another heart-wrenching incident reminds us that more than a decade has passed since (Nirbhaya rape case) but nothing has changed even today. On August 9, a trainee doctor was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. After which the doctors performed. Doctors across the country have gone on strike. A mob barged into the same hospital late on the night of August 14 and ransacked it.
