Cookie-Jo organization demands Cookieland in Manipur: rallies; Allegation of BJP spokesperson – Kuki people set fire to the house where the parents were staying

People of the Kuki-Jo community took out rallies in Manipur's Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnopal on Saturday (August 31). These organizations demand that a separate Kukiland be created in Manipur, which should be a union territory. These organizations say that the only way to get the state out of caste strife is to create a union territory with a legislature on the lines of Puducherry. Here, the house of BJP spokesperson T Michael L Hokip in Penial was set on fire. While sharing the video on X, Haokip alleged that it was the work of the cookie crowd. Opposition to CM Biren's interview and viral audio Protests were held in Manipur against the interview given by CM Biren Singh to news agency PTI. In an interview to PTI, the Chief Minister rejected the demand of Kuki groups for a separate Kukiland. CM Biren said that he will not allow the identity of the state to be weakened. Biren hails from the Maitei community. A special development package has been assured for the area where the Kukis live. However, the Manipur government says that the Chief Minister's voice has been tampered with in the audio clip. This is being done to derail the peace initiative in the violence-hit state. The police are investigating the matter More than 200 people have died in violence since May 2023 Violence has been going on in Manipur since May 3, 2023 between the Kuki and Maitei communities over reservation. According to government figures, 226 people have died so far due to violence. While more than 1100 people have been injured. More than 65 thousand people have left their homes.
