Big upset for second straight day at US Open: Djokovic loses after Alcaraz, dreams of 25th Grand Slam dashed

Defending champion Novak Djokovic has suffered an upset in the third round of the US Open. He defeated 28th seed Alexei Popery 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. A day earlier, Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz was eliminated in the second round. Australia's 25-year-old Poperin took the lead on Saturday at New York's Arthur Ashe Stadium, beating Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slams, in the first two sets. Then after losing the third set 2-6 won the fourth set 6-4. Djokovic was trying to become the first player to win 25 Grand Slams. She is tied with Australia's Margaret Court with 24 Grand Slams. Court has also won 24 Grand Slams. 3 Interesting Facts Alcaraz also lost the day before Spain's Carlos Alcaraz was eliminated in the second round. World No. 3 Alcaraz was defeated by World No. 74 Botik van de Zandskulp of the Netherlands 6-1, 7-5, 6-4.
