J&K Elections: 279 candidates nominated in first phase: Maximum number of candidates in Anantnag-Pulwama; Polling in 7 districts on September 18

The first phase of voting will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18. August 27 was the last date for filing nomination papers. According to the Election Commission, 279 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 24 assembly seats in seven districts. A total of 72 candidates have filed their candidature in Anantnag district. After this, 55 candidates have filed in Pulwama district, 41 in Doda district, 32 in Kishtwar, 28 in Shopian, 28 in Kulgam, while 23 candidates have filed in Ramban. More than 23.27 lakh voters will vote in the first phase of the election. There are 60 third gender voters along with 11.76 lakh male voters and 11.51 lakh female voters. Voting for 90 seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases between September 18 and October 1. The result will be out on 4 October 2024. The majority figure to form the government is 46. Know how many candidates have been fielded by which party so far… BJP has announced the names of 45 candidates so far BJP has announced three lists for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections so far. A total of 45 candidates are in the fray. The party announced the list of 44 names on August 26 at 10 am. The list was withdrawn when protests arose. After two hours a new list of 15 names was released. Three hours later came another list of single names. The third list of 29 candidates was announced on Tuesday. There are 10 names of candidates for the second phase and 19 candidates for the third phase. In the third list, the party has repeated the 28 names announced on August 26. Congress fielded 9 candidates so far, released only one list In Jammu and Kashmir NC (National Conference) and Congress have an alliance. Out of 90 seats, National Conference is contesting on 51 seats and Congress on 32 seats. There will be a friendly fight on 5 seats. CPI(M) and Panthers Party got 2 seats. Congress has so far announced only 9 candidates. Only one list has been released. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi reached Srinagar on the evening of August 21. Meanwhile, he held a meeting with the National Conference regarding the alliance and seat sharing. National Conference: 50 candidates announced in two lists so far The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday (August 27) announced the second list for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. It has 32 names. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will contest from Ganderbal and Tanveer Sadiq from Jadibal seat. The party announced 18 candidates on August 26. The party has announced 50 candidates so far. While one name is yet to be announced. Because NC has got only 51 seats in the grand alliance. The last assembly election was held in 2014. The last assembly election was held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014. After that, BJP and PDP formed a coalition government. In 2018, the government fell after the coalition broke down. After this, the state had Governor's rule (as per the then Jammu and Kashmir Constitution) for 6 months. After this President's rule was implemented. The 2019 Lok Sabha elections were held during the President's rule, with the BJP returning to the Center with an overwhelming majority. Following this on August 5, 2019, the BJP government abrogated Article 370 and divided the state into two Union Territories (Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh). In this way, assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years.
