Trump appoints Bharatavanshi Bhattacharya as NIH director: In the spotlight for criticizing government during Covid, will oversee 27 institutions

As director of the NIH, Bhattacharya will oversee 27 institutes. These organizations work to prepare vaccines and develop new drugs for epidemics.

Bhattacharya gave information about this by posting on X. Bhattacharya said-

I feel honored to be selected by President Donald Trump to be Director. We will reform America's scientific institutions so they can be trusted again and science can be better used to make America healthy again.

Bhattacharya is a professor of health policy at Stanford University and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Trump recently handed over the responsibility of the Department of Health to Robert Kennedy Jr.

He came into the limelight for criticizing the government during Kovid-19 Bhattacharya came into the limelight for criticizing the government's policies during Covid-19. He opposed the government's decision to make masks and lockdown mandatory. He also opposed the government's policy of making vaccination compulsory.

He said that people are facing difficulties due to the vaccination policy of the government. People who have not been vaccinated are being prevented from going to the office. Because of this, the people of the country are losing faith in the health system.

His statements were criticized by many health experts, including the World Health Organization, but some in the Trump administration earlier supported Bhattacharya's statements.

Recently, Bhattacharya has left the X platform for an alternative site 'BlueSky', commenting on X on Scientists. He calls BlueSky 'his little echo chamber'.

Faced with restrictions on social media Bhattacharya also faced bans on social media due to his views. He was a prosecutor in a case in the Supreme Court. Later, he was summoned to the company's headquarters to investigate how his views on social media were limited after Elon Musk bought Twitter.
