The Russia-Ukraine war has been going on for more than two and a half years. Meanwhile, both Ukraine and Russia are facing troop crises. Russia has pushed the youth of many countries around the world into this war. The youth of many countries including India, Nepal, Brazil are forced to fight in this war. Many of these youths have been captured by Ukraine, but no steps have been taken by Russia to release them.
A Nepalese, a Slovak and a Brazilian held in a prisoner-of-war camp in Ukraine say they never agreed to fight in the Russian army, but were duped into it. A Ukrainian official tells how many foreign fighters he has captured, but they are a burden to him, which he wants to get rid of as soon as possible. But no proposal was received from Russia.
Some went to study in Russia, some were tourists, fraudulently joined the Russian army • A POW camp in Ukraine's Lviv province holds 16 foreign prisoners. Other camps also hold many foreign incarcerations. Among these prisoners, a youth from Nepal said that he had gone to Russia to study. A month after arriving there, unable to pay his university fees, he was forced to sign a contract with the Russian army, where he was assured that he would not have to go to war, only help the wounded. But within weeks he was sent to March and found himself under fire. • A man from Slovakia said he moved to Russia in January because he dreamed of living a natural life in the Siberian taiga. In need of money and enlisted in the army to obtain Russian citizenship, where he was told he would only have to dig trenches. Which was wrong. He betrayed us. He does not want to go back to Slovakia, because he might be jailed. • A Brazilian prisoner said he accepted a job with a Russian IT company. On reaching Russia, he was told that the company worked for Russian military intelligence.
Sends foreigners forward to find out about the whereabouts of Ukrainian shooters Most of the prisoners say foreigners were duped into fighting, but some actually agreed to fight, with a salary of Rs 1.68 lakh per month. It included people from Sri Lanka, Serbia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Morocco, India and Egypt. People were also recruited from Africa. According to a Ukrainian intelligence source, most of the recruits have been killed, as they are deliberately sent ahead of Russian troops so that the location of the Ukrainian gunners is known.
Most of the foreign youths who fought for Russia were from Sri Lanka and Nepal. It is estimated that the number of foreign fighters fighting for Russia may range from several thousand to tens of thousands. On October 17, Ukraine's spy chief, Kirill Budanov, claimed that 11,000 North Korean soldiers were training in eastern Russia to fight in Ukraine. It is difficult to confirm, although South Korea's intelligence agency says some training is underway. Ukraine's Lt. Matvenko said the largest number of non-Russian prisoners of war are from Sri Lanka and Nepal, saying the numbers have dropped over the past few months.
