The Taliban has banned nursing training for women in Afghanistan. According to news agency AFP, a meeting of health officials was recently held in Kabul at which the Taliban government's decision was announced.
An official from the Ministry of Health in Afghanistan said that there was no official statement on the matter but he was told during the meeting that women and girls would no longer be able to study in these institutions. No reason was given for this.
Cricketer Rashid Khan expressed concern over the Taliban's decision saying that the Taliban's decision will have a profound impact on Afghanistan as the country is already facing a shortage of medical and paramedical staff.
Rashid further wrote-
Education has an important place in Islam, which is considered essential for both men and women. I am deeply saddened by the closure of educational and medical institutions for women in Afghanistan.
Former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi said that the decision to ban girls from medical studies is not right. Islam has always emphasized the importance of education for all.
After this decision of Taliban, a video is going viral on social media in which medical students are seen crying and consoling each other.
The United Nations Mission in Afghanistan has also appealed to the Taliban government to reconsider its decision. The mission said the decision would have a negative impact on the country's health system and development.
Amnesty International said that most women in Afghanistan die while giving birth. There is already a shortage of medical staff in the country. This decision of the Taliban will have a devastating effect on the country.
