Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suddenly arrived in America on Friday night. Trudeau met with the newly elected US President Donald Trump. According to the New York Times, the meeting took place not at Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Florida but at his private club. Usually, whenever a leader or celebrity goes to Florida to meet Trump, they go to his home Mar-a-Lago.

Trump-Trudeau had dinner together at a club in Palm Beach. Trudeau was accompanied by several others, including Canada's Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc. No information was previously shared about Trudeau's visit.

Neither Trump's team nor Trudeau's office has given any information about Trudeau's visit. Trudeau's visit was not included in his list of public events.

Trudeau is the first Prime Minister of the G-7 countries to meet Trump since his election as President. The meeting is taking place at a time when Trump has announced the imposition of 25% tariffs on Canada just a few days ago. Tariffs are imposed on goods coming from other countries. Canadian PM Trudeau also spoke to Trump after his statement.

Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Canada Why did Trump announce on social media on November 26 that he would impose 25% to 35% tariffs on goods coming into the US from Canada, Mexico and China on the day before he was sworn in as president?

Trump said both Canada and Mexico could easily crack down on illegal immigrants and drug (fentanyl) supply if they wanted to, but they are not doing so. If they do not control this, they will have to bear the burden of heavy tariffs imposed by the US.

After Trump's announcement, PM Trudeau's office has released a statement saying that Canada is essential for energy supply to America. Last year, the US 60% of the oil used by came from Canada. He will discuss these issues with Trump's team.

According to the NYT, Canada is one of America's largest trading partners. The US consumes 80% of Canada's oil and 40% of its gas.

Trudeau held a press conference before leaving for America. In which he said that the imposition of tariffs on Canada will not only harm the people of Canada but will also increase the hardships of the American people. Apart from the increase in the prices of essential commodities, many businesses will suffer due to this.

PM Trudeau said that Trump promised to lower grocery prices in his election campaign, but now he is talking about imposing a 25% tax on all products.

Trudeau also said that Trump does what he says. From their statement, it seems that they may impose tariffs.

According to US Customs and Border Protection, US Border Patrol apprehended 56,530 people at the Mexican border and 23,721 at the Canadian border between October 2023 and September 2024. They were trying to enter America illegally.
