Scheme: 3 lakh Indians fear deportation in UAE, 4 thousand seek relief

  • Undocumented people can apply for amnesty till October 30

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has announced that illegal and undocumented immigrants will be deported to their respective countries after October 30. After this decision, more than 3 lakh Indian immigrants living in UAE without documents are in trouble. However, the UAE started a two-month amnesty program from 1 September 2024. Under this scheme, people who overstay their visa will get legal relief.

In which they will be able to renew their visa or choose the option to leave the UAE without any penalty. The UAE government says that this amnesty scheme will last until October 30, 2024. Any illegal immigrants found will be deported.

Immigrants can enjoy two benefits under the scheme

  • Indians wishing to return to India can apply for an emergency certificate at the Consulate General of India in Dubai or at the Avir Immigration Centre.
  • Those wishing to stay in the UAE can apply for a short-validation passport at any BLS center in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

500 Indians returned to the country under the amnesty scheme The Consulate General of India in Dubai has launched an Amnesty Center from 1st September. More than 4,000 Indians have sought relief from the consulate. Out of which more than 600 passports and 800 emergency certificates have been issued. More than 500 Indian immigrants have been assisted in issuing exit permits.

Heavy congestion at Pak-Bangladesh centres Authorities in all countries have set up facilities and support centers to facilitate the amnesty scheme. Bangladesh-Pak centers are witnessing heavy congestion. In the first week, 20,000 people applied for the amnesty scheme, including people who entered the country illegally, overstayers, migrants working on tourist visas and others facing any type of penalty. and currently resides in UAE. Earlier, the UAE asked workers in Pakistan to abide by its rules and refrain from criminal activities.
