Olaf Schulz
- Chancellor Schulze's visit to India on October 25, big decision before this
Germany is hoping for India's help to keep its economy on track. Ahead of German Chancellor Olaf Schulz's visit to India on October 25, the German Cabinet has taken several important steps to encourage Indian skilled workers in the country. According to a report, the Schulz cabinet passed more than 30 decisions presented by the Ministries of Labor and Foreign Affairs. The aim is to attract Indian professionals to overcome the shortage of skilled workers in the German labor market. The German Institute of Economics (IW) said there were 570,000 job vacancies in the country by the end of 2023. German Labor Minister Huerts Heil said that one million new people enter the labor market in India every month. It is for this reason that Germany sees India as a particularly important partner in the case of skilled labor migration.
Visa processing will take 2 weeks instead of 9 months • The Schulz Cabinet passed 30 measures, many of which were proposed by the Ministries of Labor and External Affairs, and aimed at attracting skilled workers from India. These steps include making visas digital by the end of 2024, which could help Indian skilled workers access a streamlined migration process. • The German government reduced the number of days for visa processing of Indian skilled workers from 9 months to 2 weeks. The move could benefit around 4 lakh skilled workers in Germany. • The Federal Labor Office has also said it will become more active in advising Indian college students in Germany already. • The German government wants to offer German language classes to people who want to immigrate to the country. • The language skill requirement is often the most discouraging factor for foreign workers coming to the country, especially Indians looking for job opportunities in English-speaking countries.
