PM Modi leaves for Russia, meets Putin: attends BRICS summit tomorrow; Meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping possible after 2 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left at 7 am for a visit to Russia to attend the BRICS Summit. His visit will last for 2 days. This summit of BRICS is being held in the city of Kazan, Russia.

PM Modi is visiting Russia for the second time in the last 4 months. Earlier, he had come to participate in the India-Russia Summit in July. After arriving in Russia, PM Modi will attend a dinner with BRICS leaders in the evening. Here he will meet Russian President Putin. Apart from this, he may have informal conversations with several leaders.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi will attend the BRICS meeting on Wednesday. This will be done in two sessions. First of all, there will be a closed room discussion in the morning. This will be followed by an open plenary in the evening. Meanwhile, PM Modi will also hold bilateral talks with many leaders here.

A conversation with the Chinese President is possible after 2 years PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are likely to hold talks during the BRICS summit. The Ministry of External Affairs had informed yesterday that an agreement has been reached between India and China regarding patrolling in Ladakh.

According to media reports, in such a situation, there may be talks between PM Modi and Xi Jinping. If this happens then both the leaders will talk to each other after 2 years. The two last met in 2022 during the G-20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.

However, both the leaders participated in the BRICS summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa last year.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to join BRICS Plus PM Modi will leave Russia on October 23. After this, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will lead India's delegation to the BRICS Plus countries session on October 24. The session will be on the theme 'BRICS and Global South'.

A total of 28 countries and 5 international organizations will participate in this summit. A joint statement of the BRICS countries i.e. Kazan Declaration will be issued after the summit. India may also open a new consulate in Kazan. More than 1 thousand Indian students live here.

BRICS Summit has been held 15 times so far The first summit of BRIC countries was held in 2009. It was organized in Russia. After this, it was renamed to BRICS after joining South Africa in the year 2010. BRICS Summit has been held 15 times so far. This time its 16th summit is being organized.

Russia has hosted the BRICS summit three times so far. This will be the fourth time that Putin will chair the BRICS.
