PM Modi arrives in communist Laos for ASEAN summit: Buddhist monks welcome; Also watched the Ramayana of Laos with the Indian community

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Laos. He saw the Ramayana of Laos there.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the communist country of Laos on a 2-day visit on Thursday to participate in the India-ASEAN Summit. Here Buddhist monks welcomed him. Prime Minister Modi also watched the Ramayana of Laos in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

PM Modi will attend the 10th India-ASEAN Summit in Laos. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during this time PM Modi will also hold bilateral talks with many leaders of ASEAN countries.

The Prime Minister of Lao Sonex Sifandon invited PM Modi. Laos is hosting the India-ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit this year.

Modi government's 'Act East Policy' completed 10 years This year, Modi government's 'Act East Policy' is completing 10 years. This journey is also very important in this context. The 'Act East Policy' is an important part of India's diplomacy, which aims to strengthen relations with South East Asian countries.

PM Modi announced this policy during India ASEAN Summit in 2014. The policy is considered an upgraded version of former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao's Look East policy, which he launched in 1992.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had visited South Asian countries Brunei and Singapore in September. President Draupadi Murmu also visited Timor-Leste in August.

'The issue of Myanmar and China will be discussed' The long-running civil war in Myanmar and regional tensions over the South China Sea are likely to be discussed during the East Asia Summit. Both these issues are major challenges for ASEAN countries.

In February 2021, the Myanmar army overthrew the government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Since then, nearly 6,000 people have been killed and more than 3 million displaced in Myanmar.

This year there have been many clashes between China and the Philippines over the border dispute in the South China Sea. Vietnam last week accused China of attacking its fishermen in disputed areas of the South China Sea.

China has also sent patrol vessels to areas claimed by Indonesia and Malaysia.

The footage shows Chinese and Philippine coast guard ships colliding.

ASEAN is a group of 10 countries ASEAN was founded in 1967 in Bangkok. It is a regional organization of South-East Asian countries. Its full name is Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). It has a total of 10 member countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei and Laos.

India signed Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with ASEAN countries in 2022. Under this, conservation, economic and technological interests are worked together to enhance. Also, India is strengthening relations with ASEAN countries to counter China in this region.
