Among America's population of 33.3 million, the number of immigrants is growing at a rapid pace. According to a report by Pew Research, the number of tourists in the US reached a record 4.78 crore in 2023, which is 16 lakh more than in 2022. This is the highest annual growth in the US since 2000.
The number of immigrants in America in 1970 was only 4.7% of the total American population, which is almost 3 times less than today. But, later the number of tourists has increased rapidly due to changes in the American immigration rules by the American Congress. Which has now become 14.3% of the total population of Americans in 2023, which means that 14 out of 100 people living in America are tourists.
The number of immigrants is the highest since 1910. Travelers made up 17.8% of the US population in 1890. The Pew Research Center has prepared this report based on an analysis of the American Community Survey-2023 census data.
A quarter of immigrants in the US live illegally
- 23% of tourists are from Mexico, the highest 10 million tourists to the US are from Mexico. Which is 23% of total tourists. In second place is Indian. There are 2.8 lakh Indians in America which is 6%. 2.5 million Chinese live in America which is 5% of total tourists.
- 2 in 10 Immigrants Live Illegally When it comes to the legal status of immigrants living in the US, approximately 77% live legally while 23% live illegally or undocumented. Thousands of people cross the border into the US illegally every year.
4 most visited states, most in California Out of 4.61 crore immigrants, maximum live in 4 US states. 1.1 crore in California, 52 lakh in Texas, 48 lakh in Florida and 45 lakh in New York.
- 63% of tourists stay in only 20 major cities. The largest populations are in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
- In 2022, more than 30 million travelers were in the American workforce. Of these, 2.2 crore are legal migrants and 83 lakh migrants work illegally.
- 35% of travelers over the age of 25 coming to the US have a bachelor's degree or higher,
