Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has made a statement on the Russia-India-China (RIC) triad ahead of the BRICS summit. He said that these countries have not met formally for the past few years, but even today they maintain a strong relationship. According to news agency ANI, Lavrov said in an interview with a Russian media that the meeting of these countries did not take place due to Covid and some other issues.
Lavrov said that the initiative to hold regular meetings of the Russia-India-China triumvirate was taken in the 1990s. Later this troika expanded and later became BRICS. Brazil and South Africa joined it. On January 1, 2024, four new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates were also included in BRICS.
BRICS is not an anti-western country The Russian Foreign Minister said that BRICS is a symbol of ongoing changes in the world economy. He said that new economic centers are developing in the world today. This is also having an economic impact on the world. BRICS takes into account the needs of its member countries. Other countries also want to become its members. This is a group in which neither country is ahead nor behind the other.
Lavrov also made it clear that BRICS does not intend to fight with anyone. Western countries are not involved in this, it does not mean that we are against them. BRICS aims to take advantage of their geography, shared history and proximity.
What is Brix and how powerful is it?
The journey of the BRICS organization in its present form to this point has been completed in three stages…
First Stage: RIC stands for Russia, India and China – these three countries came together to form an association in the 1990s. The organization was headed by Russian leader Yevgeny Primakov. The purpose of the coming together of the three countries was to challenge America's dominance in world foreign policy and at the same time restore our relationship.
Second stage: BRIC stands for Brazil, Russia, India and China – In 2001, investment bank Goldman Sachs described these four countries as the fastest growing economies in the world. After this, in 2009, these countries came together to form an organization called BRIC.
Third Stage: BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – South Africa was made a part of this organization in 2010 to represent the African continent. Then this organization got its final form and was called BRICS.
Today BRICS has overtaken the EU to become the third most powerful economic organization in the world.
