Moldova's female president Maia opens front against Putin: now ready to defeat pro-Russians in presidential election

  • 50.3% of Moldova voted in favor of EU membership, while 49.6% voted against it.

Moldova is a small country in Eastern Europe. Its population is less than 25 lakhs. Currently this country is going through a historical change. Maia Sandu, the 52-year-old woman president who has been in charge of the country since 2020, has taken an open front against Russian President Vladimir Putin. The country, which shares a 1200 km border with Ukraine, recently held a referendum on joining the European Union (EU) on October 20, with Sandu openly supporting EU membership.

As a result, 50.38% voted in favor of joining the EU, while 49.62% remained against it. Maia's victory not only shows her courage to stand up to Putin, but she is now busy preparing to defeat her opponent, pro-Russia General Alexander Stoyanoglou, in the last round of the presidential election. He has been praised on all sides for openly raising the flag against Putin.

Sandhu's support continues to rise: Maiya's popularity has grown amid poll support. This victory would further cement his reputation as a reformer. He will be established as a bold leader fighting against a Russian-backed leader. His victory would also clear the way for Moldova to become a member of the EU, which would be a deep blow for Putin.

Maia is also a boxer who has worked at the World Bank: Maia is a professional boxer. She graduated from Harvard Kennedy School. After that, she joined the World Bank for two years. Came to Moldova in 2012 and became the Minister of Education of the country. After which she started a campaign against corruption. She banned copying in high school, graduation exams. The situation was such that the passing rate of students dropped from 95% to 59%.

In the first phase, Maia got 42%, Putin supporter 26% Voting for the first phase of the presidential election was also done along with the voting of the referendum. In which 42% people voted for Maia. While his rival and Putin supporter General Alexander Stoyanoglou received 26% of the vote. Voting for the last phase will now take place on November 3. Voters will lean towards Maia.
