Massive explosion at Iran coal mine: 30 dead, 17 injured; The President said- We are doing our best to find out the reasons for the blast

Massive explosion in Iran's coal mine, 30 dead and 17 injured A massive gas explosion at a coal mine in Iran's southern Khorasan province has killed at least 30 people and injured 17. Iranian state television reported on Sunday that 24 people were still missing.

State TV reported that the accident was caused by a methane gas explosion in two blocks of the mine operated by the Madanju company, adding that 69 workers were present in the two blocks at the time of the explosion. State media said the explosion occurred at 9pm local time on Saturday.

The President expressed his condolences President Masoud Pezheshkian expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. “I spoke to the ministers and we are doing our best to find the cause of the explosion. 17 injured people have been taken to hospital and 24 are still missing,” Pazheshkian said in a televised interview.

The deaths occurred at a coal mine in Tabas, located about 540 kilometers south-east of the capital Tehran, the report said. It said authorities were sending emergency personnel to the area following the explosion late Saturday night.

There have been explosions beforeThis is not the first tragedy to hit Iran's mining industry. In 2017, an explosion at a coal mine killed at least 42 people. In 2013, 11 workers died in two separate mining incidents. Apart from this, at least 20 workers were killed in several incidents in 2009.
