Newly elected US President Donald Trump has appointed Kashyap Kash Patel of Gujarati origin as the next director of the investigative agency 'Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Trump announced this in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday.

In the post, Trump also praised Kash Patel's past work. Prior to this, Kash Patel served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence and Senior Director of Counterterrorism Programs at the National Security Council during Trump's first term.

Kash Patel was considered America's first fighter “I am proud that Kashyap Kush Patel will serve as the next director of the FBI,” Trump said. Kash is a brilliant lawyer and investigator. Praising Kash Patel, Trump called him an 'America First' fighter. Trump said Kash Patel has spent his career exposing corruption, protecting justice and the American people.

Trump said Kash Patel has been tasked with dealing with America's rising crime rate, criminal gangs and border crimes like human and drug smuggling.

Kash Patel will work under Attorney General Pam Bondi.

In 2019, he was appointed as a staff member of President Trump's National Security Council (NSC). In the same year, he was also made the Senior Director of Counterterrorism Directorate. During Donald Trump's first term as president, Kash Patel served as Trump's counterterrorism adviser on the National Security Council and chief of staff to Defense Secretary Christopher Miller.

Kash Patel was included in the committee formed on Russian interference in the 2016 elections. It was while working on this that he first came to Trump's attention.

According to a New York Times report, Trump as president in 2019 pressured Ukraine to gather information about Joe Biden's son. Due to which the opposition got angry with him.
