Government of Canada has made new rules for international students coming from other countries including India. Under this rule, international students will now only be able to work off-campus for 24 hours a week. This rule has been implemented since September due to which Indian students will find it difficult to afford living expenses in expensive cities like Toronto. Earlier international students were allowed to work off-campus for more than 20 hours. A temporary policy allowing students to work off-campus for more than 20 hours per week expired on April 30, said Government of Canada Immigration Minister Mark Miller. Canada is one of the most favorite destinations for Indian students. According to a 2022 report by the Canadian Bureau for International Education, there were 3,19,130 Indian students in Canada. Colleges and universities here have the highest number of Indian students. Miller said, “Any student who comes here should come here to study. Allowing students to work 24 hours a week means they can focus on their studies. Here each student is allowed to work 48 hours a week. Even in America, students have to fulfill additional criteria before being allowed to work off campus.
