India's $1 million aid to Vietnam: Cyclone Yagi floods, landslides kill over 200, many still missing

India has sent relief materials worth $1 million (about Rs 8.4 crore) to help Vietnam affected by floods and landslides caused by Cyclone Yagi. India named it Operation Sadbhav. Under this operation, India has sent a total of 35 tonnes of relief materials such as water filters, water containers, blankets, kitchen utensils and solar lanterns.

The material was sent by an Air Force C17 aircraft on Sunday night. After the loss in Vietnam due to Yagi, Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar expressed their condolences to the people of Vietnam. Apart from Vietnam, India has also sent relief materials to Yagi-affected Myanmar and Laos.

More than 200 people have died so far Floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi have killed more than 200 people in Vietnam. According to the Vietnamese newspaper VN Express, more than 100 people are missing. More than 800 have been injured. On September 10, a landslide in Lao Cai province buried the village of Long Nu in mud.

At around 6 am on Tuesday morning, mud and rocks flowed from the mountain 500 meters away, leaving the entire village buried in mud. The village had 37 houses, in which 158 people lived, after the landslide, the locals managed to take 17 injured people to the hospital.

According to VN Express, the bodies of 42 people have been recovered. There are about 50 people missing.

Rescue workers entered the water to search for missing people after the flood in the village. He launched an expedition to find people by putting his hands in the soil.

Strongest storm in 3 decades Typhoon Yagi, originating in the South China Sea, moved towards Vietnam on September 3. After 2 days it became a super typhoon, packing winds of up to 201 km/h. On September 8, Typhoon Yagi struck the northern coast of Vietnam. After hitting the coast, the wind speed decreased slightly to 149 kmph.

According to the Meteorological Department, Hurricane Yagi is the most powerful storm in Asia this year. Such a powerful storm has hit Vietnam after three decades. Floods and landslides caused by heavy rains following the typhoon have wreaked havoc in northern areas of the country, including the capital Hanoi.
