An Indian student was shot dead by gunmen at a petrol pump in the American city of Chicago on Friday. 22-year-old Sai Teja Nukarapu, a resident of Telangana, worked part-time at a petrol pump in Chicago. Telangana BRS party leader Madhusudan Thatha met Sai's parents.
According to media reports, Sai Teja went to America to pursue MBA after completing his graduation in India. There he worked part-time at a petrol pump to survive in America.
Sai's parents said he was not on duty when he was shot, but stopped to help his friend. The Consulate General of India in Chicago has demanded immediate action against the culprits. The consulate said it would provide all possible assistance to the victim's family.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also expressed grief over the incident. He wrote on social media – We are very saddened by this news. Our consulate is providing all possible assistance to the family.
Increase in racial violence against Indians Racial violence against Indian students has increased in America in recent times. Even in the first three months of the year 2024, the number of murders of Indian students crossed double digits.
The Conservative Party also raised a question about this in the US Parliament. In response to which a statement issued by the White House said that there is zero tolerance for such matters. Indo-American Democrat leader and Congressman Thanedar spoke about fighting against Hinduphobia. He has asserted that there should be no place for hate in America.
