Hezbollah has announced a new leader 32 days after Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli attack. Deputy leader Naeem Qasim was handed over the responsibility of the organization on Tuesday.
A statement issued by Hezbollah said Qasim was chosen for the post because he had always followed the organization's principles. May Allah guide him to success in his mission.
Till now Qasim was at number 2 in the organization. It was Qassim who addressed the people of Lebanon after Nasrallah's death. According to UAE media house Irem News, he lives in Iran.
Qasim left Beirut on 5 October. He was taken in the plane of Iran's foreign minister. According to media reports, Iranian leaders ordered Qasim's expulsion out of fear of Israel.
Before Naim, Hashem Saifeddin, Nasrallah's cousin, was the frontrunner in the race to become Hezbollah's head. However, he too was killed in an Israeli airstrike. His death was confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu himself.
