The Bangladesh High Court on Wednesday acquitted former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a corruption case. After this, Khaleda Zia reached the American Embassy in Dhaka to complete the US visa application process. Jiya has been suffering from serious liver, heart and eye problems for a long time.
Zia, 79, was sent to Dhaka Central Jail in 2018 after being sentenced to five years by a special court in the Orphanage Trust corruption case. On October 30, 2018, the High Court increased his sentence to 10 years. He was later convicted in the Jia Charitable Trust corruption case and sentenced to seven years in prison.
