Former Bangladesh PM Khaleda Zia acquitted in corruption case: Reaches American embassy to apply for US visa; Struggling with a serious health problem

The Bangladesh High Court on Wednesday acquitted former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a corruption case. After this, Khaleda Zia reached the American Embassy in Dhaka to complete the US visa application process. Jiya has been suffering from serious liver, heart and eye problems for a long time.

Zia, 79, was sent to Dhaka Central Jail in 2018 after being sentenced to five years by a special court in the Orphanage Trust corruption case. On October 30, 2018, the High Court increased his sentence to 10 years. He was later convicted in the Jia Charitable Trust corruption case and sentenced to seven years in prison.

May go to America from Britain next month As reported by BDNews24, the court overturned the decision based on Zia's appeal. Two other accused were also acquitted in this case. Zia may fly to Britain early next month, from where he can seek advanced medical treatment in America or Germany.

Zia's bank account was unfrozen after 17 years Zia was temporarily released from prison due to Corona. Her sentence was suspended in 2020 on the condition that she stay at home and not leave the country.

Khaleda Zia's bank account was unfrozen a few months ago. His bank accounts were frozen for 17 years. The NBR's Central Intelligence Cell ordered the freezing of Khaleda Zia's accounts in August 2007.
