Trudeau has been Prime Minister of Canada for the past 9 years, now MPs from his own party have asked him to step down.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is facing opposition within his own party. Liberal Party MPs have given Trudeau until October 28 to resign as prime minister. Disgruntled leaders told Trudeau to either resign or be prepared to face a coup.
According to media reports, 24 MPs from Trudeau's party have demanded the removal of the PM before the election. He has also signed a letter for this. The demand letter signed by the MPs has not been made public yet. In the letter, the MPs demanded that Trudeau resign before the election due to the threat of defeat in next year's general election.
MPs have asked Trudeau not to seek a fourth term as prime minister. No Canadian leader has won a fourth term in the past 100 years.
The challenge to Trudeau comes at a time when his government is embroiled in major diplomatic tensions with India over the killing of Khalistan militant Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
NDP pro-Khalistan leader Jagmeet Singh withdrew support from the Trudeau government.
The MP said – Trudeau should give up his claim like Biden PM Trudeau also met with 20 Liberal Party MPs behind closed doors on Wednesday. At the meeting, British Columbia MP Patrick Wheeler of the Liberal Party said that the resignation of the PM is necessary to win the election next year.
Weiler said that in the United States, the Democratic Party under the leadership of Biden was far behind in the polls. After this she gave up the show and named Kamala Harris. This strengthened the lead of the Democratic Party. He said the Liberal Party could make a similar comeback in Canada.
Canadian Newfoundland Liberal MP Ken MacDonald said Trudeau needs to listen to the people. He said he has many colleagues who want to contest the next election but are alarmed by the Liberals' declining popularity.
Currently, the Canadian Parliament has 153 Liberal Party MPs in the House of Commons.
Earlier this month, the New Democratic Party (NDP), a Trudeau government ally, withdrew its support. Since then, Trudeau has been running a government without a majority. The NDP is the party of pro-Khalistan Canadian Sikh MP Jagmeet Singh.
