Brian Thompson, the CEO of the insurance unit of the American company United Healthcare, was shot dead in New York on Wednesday morning (local time). Thompson was shot by an assailant in front of the Hilton Hotel in New York. News portal Bloomberg quoted police officials as saying that Thompson was shot in the chest.
Thompson arrived at the hotel on Wednesday to attend the company's investor day conference. The company said the conference ended prematurely due to one of its employees' ill health.
According to the New York Post, a masked man opened fire on Thompson. After the shooting, Thompson was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The police have sealed the spot of firing and started investigation.
Thompson was targeted
The New York Post quoted witnesses as saying that the attacker had been wandering around the scene for some time. As soon as Thompson reached outside the hotel, he started shooting. After firing, the attacker fled from the spot. Police are currently looking for the attacker.
