It is true that vice and technology have made our lives easier but their disadvantages are also many. If not used judiciously, physical and mental health are damaged. About which everyone knows. To avoid such pitfalls of 'digital life' there are some 'digital rules' to remember. 20-20-20 Rule Nowadays our morning, afternoon and evening happens in front of the screen. Due to which the eyes are getting damaged. Staring at a single screen for long periods of time can tire the eyes. The eyes become dry and also irritated. This is called digital eye strain. To avoid this, follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes look away from the screen and look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Doing so will relax your eye muscles and reduce eye strain. If you can't remember, there are many apps and browser extensions that will remind you every 20 minutes to look away from the screen. 60-60 Rule Nowadays everyone uses earphones, earbuds or headphones. Especially the new generation cannot go a minute without earbuds. Excessive use of earphones and headphones can have a bad effect on hearing. To avoid this follow the 60-60 rule. Do not listen to audio at more than 60% volume and do not use earphones or headphones for more than 60 minutes at a time. This rule protects your ears from excessive noise and fatigue. Also, if possible, use headphones with noise cancellation so that audio can be heard at low volumes even in noisy environments. 3-6-9-12 Rule Children glued to mobiles and tablets are a serious problem of the present time. Excessive use of internet, social media and screens is adversely affecting the mental, physical and social development of children. Follow these 3-6-9-12 rules to protect children from this. No screen use at all before age 3. No electric or digital game before 6 years. Not using internet before 9 years. No social media use or unsupervised internet use before 12 years. There is another definition of this rule. No screen at all for three years, only one hour of screen use per day from 3 to 6 years, limited and supervised from 6 to 9 years and only two hours from 9 to 12 years that too with parental knowledge. 50-10 Rule Most people are working desk jobs now. Such people have to work sitting in front of the computer all day. Due to which many problems including eyes, waist, back, shoulders are caused in the long run. Follow this 50-10 rule to avoid it. After working for 50 minutes take a break of 10 minutes. Take a walk during the break, stretch and relax the mind and body. Following this rule will not only benefit the body but also increase the quality of work. If there is work stress, it will also reduce and you will also feel less tired at the end of the day. 3-2-1 Backup Rule If anything is more valuable than diamonds these days, it's data. Preserving data is also a challenge now. Sometimes very important data is not saved properly. Your important data will be absolutely safe if you follow this 3-2-1 backup rule. Make three copies of your most important data. Save them to two different hardware (eg one computer and one hard drive). while saving the third copy to cloud storage (such as Google Drive). Saving important data in this way will keep it safe. If the hardware goes bad, it will be on the cloud and if it goes away from the cloud, one of the two will be found in the hardware. No Screen Before Bedtime Nowadays almost most people have a habit of looking at their phone before going to bed at night. Doctors and medical science say that using screens before going to sleep has a bad effect on the quality of sleep. Also, the blue light emitted from the screen affects the sleep-inducing hormone. Follow this rule to avoid it. Avoid screen use at least two to three hours before going to bed at night. No smartphone – no computer before bedtime. Instead of using a screen, you can read a book, meditate or listen to music. This habit will not only improve the quality of your sleep but also make you feel refreshed when you wake up in the morning. Digital Fasting Being constantly glued to digital devices has many disadvantages. Physical and mental are real but so are social and economic losses. Just as for good health it is necessary to go hungry one day a week. Similarly one day digital fasting i.e. digital detox is also necessary. Stay away from screens and digital devices for one day a week or even 15 days. Try to use it as little as possible. Use this time for outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends, or a hobby. Doing so will create a balance between our real life and digital life. Which is also very necessary nowadays. The 80/20 rule often happens when the phone is picked up for a necessary task and hours go by watching the reels. What was done remains. In this way, a lot of time is wasted in social media. So remember the 80/20 rule for managing the time we spend on the internet. Spend 80 percent of your time on the Internet for work, study, or learning. Keep the remaining 20% for entertainment, social media or other activities. By adopting these rules you can use technology in a balanced and healthy way. Which will help in maintaining your mental and physical health. Will save you from digital stress and give you peace of mind. }
