Mental Health: Can't We Make the Workplace Stress Free?

'Doctor, you don't realize where the cameras are placed. Thus all CCTVs. Everything is recorded, but especially my activity is recorded there. I am just thirty four years old and have become a general manager in a company. So all people are 'Jale' with me. They are conspiring against me. As soon as I come out of my cabin everyone goes silent and behaves as if nothing happened. Those people have also turned my husband towards them. That is why he always explains to me by taking the side of the office bearers. Doctor, there is definitely something black in the dal. These guys can't stand my advances. You see, a lady seems to have done some black-magic to prevent me from having a child. Eight years of marriage, but still childless. Those people do not want anything to happen to me and I know one thing that they have hacked my phone.' Rani had a worried look on her face and confusion in her voice. The importance of mental health has increased a lot in today's times. Every year October 10th is celebrated as 'World Mental Health Day'. This is the central idea of the year. 'It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace.' Meaning, the time is ripe to prioritize mental health over work. People nowadays are working most of the time. Therefore, the workplace has become the biggest source of stress. If the working person is healthy then the health of the organization or company will be good and ultimately the health of the whole community or society will be improved. The mental health of young people around the world continues to deteriorate. According to a report published by the Lancet Psychiatric Commission, growing global issues such as persistent uncertainty, climate change, economic inequality and advances in technology are taking a toll on the mental health of young people. Keeping pace with new technology is an ever-present concern. Lay-off from the job means the sword of getting paid is always hanging over the head. 'What will happen in the future if the barely-earned job goes away and the loan installments cannot be paid?' Such concerns have become very common. A.D. According to the 2023 'Work in America Survey' on AI, 38% of people worry that AI will take away some or all of their jobs. While 64% people found themselves suffering from future anxiety during working hours. One of the biggest mental health problems in the workplace comes from job insecurity. Now that the era of generative AI has begun, it has started to revolutionize many jobs and businesses. However, this is enough concern for a while. But, later new work options are bound to arise. The need will be to adapt to the change. An exercise in bridging the gap between one's own strengths and the mismatch of business needs has become necessary. Of course, many do not earn enough to sustain their lifestyle. So some suffer from irregularity in work and it deteriorates the work. Many do not feel at home with the work area and for some, like Rani, the environment is toxic. Of course, in Rani's case, a psychological examination revealed that she had developed a 'delusional disorder'. Unreasonable delusions and doubts are its main features. I feel constantly insecure that someone is trying to harass me. The symptom of blaming others for one's past failures becomes acute. However, in Rani's case there was a bit of 'office politics' too. But, it only became instrumental. The basic problem was his own mentality. During the course of psychotherapy it was realized that despite her strong desire for a child and despite efforts, she did not get pregnant. So Rani blamed herself for that and the work-stress to survive in her high position led her to delusions and became a victim of perversion. Of course, disturbances in the balance of some psycho-chemicals were also responsible for this. After Rani's treatment, his confidence gradually strengthened. She started working more efficiently. It is also necessary to learn new adjustments as the circumstances and type of work change. Workplace design and those who determine work responsibilities will also have to be rethought. The physical and mental health of the employees must be taken seriously by those responsible.
