Home-Foreign: Iran-Israel-Lebanon Conflict Understandable?

Dr. Jai Narayan Vyas

America's role in the whole affair is going to be important for peace in the Middle East and for global equations to remain relatively stable. America is currently going through the final round of presidential elections. Meanwhile, Donald Trump's tongue-in-cheek brake seems to have failed ever since Biden withdrew from the presidential race and Kamala Harris was tipped to run for the presidency. A person who once carried the weighty responsibility of the American presidency and is now facing multiple accusations, Trump's behavior has become more aggressive and obscene like 'Rang jaye toh paisa back'. America is going through the election process as the Israeli conflict drags on. Therefore, America has tended to play a necessary role on that issue. However, there are some indications of the US stance in the Iran-Israel conflict. If you want to understand this whole incident, you have to remember that America is a strategic partner of Israel. America has been using its veto in favor of Israel in the UN Security Committee meeting. America provides Israel with military and advanced technology weapons to keep Israel's upper hand in the region. Israel receives strong US support in international diplomatic forums, including the United Nations. Because of this, Israel can better deal with criticisms against it on the world stage. In addition, America considers Iran as a major destabilizing factor in the Middle East. There are many reasons for this, but two of the main reasons are Iran's support for extremist groups and its ambitions to develop nuclear power. In 2018, the US withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action JCPOA-2015, which was drafted in 2015 to curb Iran's nuclear energy plan. US withdrawal from the JCPOA has increased tensions between Iran and Israel, which is not a good sign. Because of this partnership Israel was somewhat relieved from the calamities that befell her. Another strong weapon of the US is economic sanctions. When India bombed Pokhran, the US imposed restrictions on providing technology like cryogenic engineering and supercomputers to India, but nothing came of it. Currently, in the situation of Ukraine-Russia war, restrictions have been placed against providing certain technologies, goods, spare parts to Russia and buying crude oil from Russia. According to the recent Hindenburg report, some US companies are supplying goods to Russia by circumventing these restrictions for the purpose of getting more profit. As far as crude oil is concerned, China, now India, was the largest buyer of Russian crude oil until now. Thus, on the issue of crude oil, India has adopted the policy of washing its hands in the flowing Ganges by ignoring the restrictions, so now the business world has also become powerful in flouting such restrictions. Apart from this, the US often takes stock of the situation to avoid escalation of tensions and acts as a fire extinguisher for such provocations through both diplomatic and military routes. The turbulent situation between Iran and Israel also harms the commercial interests of the United States, that is, the relations with the Gulf countries which can be called extremely complicated and along with the support for Israel, the United States has been making its assumptions by showing the fear of the consequences if Iran becomes strong to the Arab countries as well. . It would not be an exaggeration to say that the US has been successful in creating some basic doubts about Iran and its policies in the minds of the Arab countries today. Also, America is using its power to the maximum to make more and more 'normalization agreements' between the Arab countries and Israel to balance the growing power of Iran. Even as a 'deterrent' response by the US, its naval aircraft carriers, submarines, and advanced radars of the air force, as well as military forces, are strategically positioned to prevent an Iran-Israel conflict as long as possible and provide Israel with a protective shield if war does occur. has been done, along with Iran and Israel starting discussions on a nuclear deal with Iran. America has clarified its role by balancing the relations of both. With this one thing should be clarified that it is not an exaggeration to say that America's foreign policy regarding Iran and Israel is motivated by domestic political calculations. It is clear as a lamp that 'influencers' or 'opinion leaders groups' are directly or indirectly involved in this policy making. America's support to Israel has caused confusion in its relations with Iran. The Iranians see this as a weakness of their politicians and therefore they have a grudge against America. Despite all this, the events taking place in the Middle East and the actions taken by both Israel and Iran have one way or another involvement of the US. For this reason it is not possible to understand the politics and behavior of the Middle East by leaving aside the role of America.}
