Doctor's Diary: There comes a time when everything is visible, there is a time when nothing is visible

Sir, it has been eight months. Now pass my loan. This is my fiftieth push.' Dr. Mukeshbhai told the bank manager. Until now, the doctor had been saying the same thing in a pleading tone, today it was mixed with a slight sense of embarrassment. The bank manager was towards Delhi. Tall, broad, massive body. Head without hair. A thick, short, toothbrush-like moustache. At first glance, it looks as if Sesame is sitting in the closet wearing men's clothes! Even though the manager had been working in Gujarat for eight years, he could not speak in Gujarati, he was not ashamed of this, but proud of it. He used to do normal conversation in Hindi, but when he had to sprinkle ruab, he would speak in English. 'So what? You May Have Still To Come Here For Fifty Times More. You are not coming for me…' was going to speak further, but the doctor stopped him. 'Sir, listen to one thing and understand. I came here not to borrow money, but to beg. If the bank gave me the amount, I would return it with interest. Please, don't misbehave with me. Aaj muze aapki grahaat hai, kal aapko meri…' The manager was a corrupt man. If the doctor had put a 'paperweight' on the file for the loan, then the work would have been lost. Dr. Hearing Mukeshbhai's talk of cash, the manager gave a sly smile like a staunchly honest man's smile, 'Hum kyun aapke paas ayenge? Mere tin bachche ho gaye hain. Ek beti aur do bete. Merry wife ka family planning ka operation bhi ho gaya hai. Hum kyun ayenge aapke pas? What do we need…?' After another twenty pushes it finally worked. This incident dates back to the 1980s. Taking a loan at that time was not as easy as it is today. Now two or three girls are getting phone calls every day: 'Sir, do you want a loan? Without mortgage, without guarantor. Ten lakhs to fifty lakhs chance aapko just seven days or within…' Where were all these banks and all these girls at that time? Well, in four months after receiving the loan amount, Dr. Mukeshbhai completed all the work of the maternity home. After the furniture, equipments, beds, curtains and paintwork were all done, the inauguration was arranged on the auspicious day of Akhatrij. Dr. People already knew that Mukeshbhai was skilled in his surgical work during his three years of employment. A large number of friends and relatives were present. An invitation card was also given to the staunch honest manager after going to the Doctor Bank branch. The manager smiled wryly and said: 'Hum to nahi ayenge, hamara peon aa jayega. Agar hum ayenge to fir aapko ye kahane ka mauka mil jayega ki, 'Manager sir, don't look! Don't you fall for this too?' Hum abhi se aapko 'wish' kar dete hai.' Dr. Mukeshbhai felt insulted, but he was a big-hearted man. He forgave this obstinate, arrogant, foolish manager at that moment. I convinced my mind that I would have to fight with him the next time. Two months passed. Neither the manager nor the doctor wanted to see each other again. Unexpected and good reason happened to meet. The manager himself Dr. Reached Mukeshbhai's consulting room. No phone, no appointment, just like owning a hospital. There was a girl with him. Without permission, the manager sat in the chair and said, 'Doctor! Dish is my daughter Shravya. Aaj subah se uske pet mein dard ho raha hai. By the way, I used to pass my senior doctors, but today I thought that it's a small problem, why should a big doctor bother you? A hundred went here. Just look.' The doctor made Shravya lie down on the table. The nurse removed the garment from the abdomen. The doctor was in doubt as soon as he appeared, came out of doubt as soon as he placed his hand and the diagnosis came up as soon as he placed the machine. He announced sitting in a chair, 'Sir, your daughter is pregnant. Nine months have passed. Muze lagta hai ki ye labor pain hai.' 'What?' The rhino sprang up, 'Doctor, tum hosh main to ho ki aaj subah-subah sharab pi kar baithe ho? Tumko Meri Ijjat, Abraoo, Prishtha Ke Bare Mein Kuch Pata Hai Kya? Shravya sirf sattarah sal ki kuwari ladki hai. Tum aisa kah kaise sakte ho? Main police station mein ja kar…' 'Police station mein baad mein jana, pahale sonography center mein ja kar shravya ki janch karna lijiye.' The doctor said in a calm tone. He was fully confident that there was a child in Shravya's womb. He had also heard his heartbeat. He himself did not have a sonography machine. He wanted to get a written proof of Shravya's pregnancy by sending the sonography report. After half an hour, the manager came with the sonography report. All the glare in the eyes, all the blushes on the face and the slurs of Hindi-English on the tongue were gone. He resorted to Gujarati language for the first time, 'Doctor Sahib, save my face. My daughter is cultured, but where, with whom she made a mistake is beyond my understanding. I cannot go to another doctor. In front of you my thigh has been exposed, now in front of another doctor…' The manager dies, the father comes alive: 'I hold your feet, sir, my honor…' Dr. Mukeshbhai admitted Shravya. Tried for fourteen hours and got a normal delivery. A healthy baby boy weighing three and a half kilograms was born, seeing which the manager scratched his head, 'Who does this look like? Not even a fraction of hearing is visible in it. Whose sin would this be? Doctor, if I know the name of that evil one, I will kill him.' The manager's first problem was what to do with this son? After requesting a million times, the doctor agreed to help. After informing the police, recording the statement of Shravya and the manager, the child was handed over to a well-known orphanage in the city. Talking to Shravya privately, taking her into confidence, Dr. Mukeshbhai got to know the name of the 'evil sinner'. While giving Shravya leave, he said to the manager, 'When your beautiful daughter was going to private tuition classes in the evening, a mwali was standing on the footpath in front of the classes with a bicycle. After a month of penance he got success. Naive Shravya felt that the boy really loved her. Your son used to drop Shravya to classes by taking him in a car worth twenty two lakhs, then your Shravya sat on that bankrupt's bicycle…! This is the result of that.' Father and daughter survived with the help of doctors. The helpless father on his way home had his back stooped, his eyelids wet and his head drooping. The dialogue in 'Sholay' is: 'Jaante ho dunya mein sabse bada boj kya hai? Baap ke kandho par bete ka janaza.' This happened for father and son. In reference to a daughter it can be said: 'Jaante ho dunya mein sabse bada aghat kya hota hai? Kunwari pregnant beti ka baap hona.''- Title line : Marys
