Dry skin is often the cause of many skin related problems. The change in weather is evident in the form of dryness on the skin. Sometimes this problem increases to such an extent that problems like inflammation etc. start happening. However, trying some tricks can alleviate the problem. Causes of Dry Skin Á This problem can also occur as a reaction to certain types of medications. Á Excessive use of hand sanitizers can also lead to this problem. Á Increasing age can also be a cause of this problem. Á Excessive use of cleaning products (eg soap, detergent, floor polish, etc.) strips the skin of its natural moisture and oils (sebum), which can lead to dryness and irritation. Á Dry skin can sometimes be the result of serious diseases such as eczema or dermatitis. Á Changes in temperature also have a significant effect on the skin, causing the skin to lose moisture and become dry. Á Frequent exposure to water can also deplete skin moisture. Á If you swim frequently in a swimming pool or are learning to swim, the chlorine in the pool water can also absorb moisture from the skin. Home Remedies for Dry Skin Honey-Aloe Vera : Honey has properties that keep the skin soft and moisturized. It is also antibacterial. Aloe vera also has anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties that are beneficial for the skin. So, mix equal amounts of aloe vera gel and honey and use it as a moisturizer. Coparel : Coparel contains essential fatty acids, which nourish the skin while keeping it hydrated. So this can be a good option to protect the skin. So, apply Coparel to the dry area after showering. You can also keep it on and if you have any problems apply it at night and go to bed and take a shower in the morning. Milk: Milk contains lactic acid, which helps in removing dead skin and creating new skin. Vitamin A and D are also found in it. In such a situation, to get its benefits and keep the skin healthy, dip a cotton ball in cold milk and apply it on the affected areas and wash it off with clean water after 10 minutes. Use two-three times a week for quick results. Apart from this, apply moisturizer and sunscreen as necessary before and after going to the swimming pool. Dermatologist (Jupiter Hospital, Pune)
