In the first innings of the ongoing fourth Test match between India and Australia, Rishabh Pant gifted his own wicket. Pant, on 28 off 36 balls, attempted a scoop shot off Scott Boland, but the timing wasn't right and the ball went to third-man, where the standing Nathan Lyon took an easy catch. In this way, Australia got the first wicket of the third day.
Gavaskar's reaction to Pant's shot Sunil Gavaskar did not like the way Rishabh Pant got out at all. Gavaskar was commentating with Harsha Bhogle for ABC Sport when the wicket fell. Gavaskar did not hide his point and scolded Pant on-air for his carelessness. Gavaskar fumed, 'Stupid, stupid, stupid.' There are two fielders and you still play shots like that. You missed the last shot and see where you got caught out. You are caught out at third-man. You gave away your wicket.'
Rishabh Pant was dismissed trying to play a scoop shot in Boland's over.
Gavaskar continued, 'You also have to understand the situation. You cannot say that this is your natural game. I'm sorry, but this is not your natural game. He played a stupid shot. This is enough to demoralize your team badly. He should not go to India's dressing room. He should go to another dressing room.'
Pant has not played well in the series yet Rishabh Pant faced 37 balls at the crease and scored 28 runs with the help of three fours. His bat has been quiet so far in this series.
