The BCCI on Saturday implemented the new IPL retention policy. Foreign players seem to be at a disadvantage due to the policy rules. Under this, all the foreign players have to register in the mega auction. If they do not register, they will not be allowed to enter the mini auction to be held later.
At the same time, if a player withdraws his name from the tournament after being sold in the auction, he will be banned for the next 2 seasons. Also, foreign players can no longer earn more than Rs 18 crore in a season. In the last mini auction, Australia's Mitchell Starc was included in the team for Rs 24.75 crore and Pat Cummins for Rs 20.50 crore.
You will know the answers to 6 questions in the story
1. What is the retention rule of IPL? 2. What has changed in the Right to Match card? 3. How much will it cost the player to retain? 4. What are the new rules for foreign players? 5. How did foreign players suffer? 6. What is the rule for uncapped players?
1. New Retention Rule of IPL Now the franchise team will be able to retain 6 players before the IPL mega auction. In which maximum 5 international and 2 uncapped players can be included. An international player can be from any country, but an uncapped player must be from India only.
Suppose, Mumbai Indians retain 5 international players, then the team can now retain only one uncapped player as the sixth player. When a team retains 4 international players, they will have the option to retain 2 uncapped players.
2. What has changed in the Right to Match card? Right to match i.e. RTM card has also returned in the auction. If the team wants they can retain 6 players before the auction or the team can use 6 RTM cards in the auction. If a team retains 3 players, they will only have 3 RTM cards in the auction. Likewise, if 4 players retain 2 RTM cards will remain in the auction.
In the auction, the team gets a right-to-match card. Suppose, Chennai Super Kings have retained 5 players and they have one RTM card left. The team could not retain Moeen Ali. Now if Hyderabad buys Moeen in the auction for Rs 6 crore then Chennai can use his RTM card to keep Moeen in their team.
A new rule has been added to RTM this time, the bidding team will have the opportunity to increase the price of the player. As Hyderabad bid Rs 6 crore for Moeen and CSK used the RTM card, Hyderabad paid that price Rs. 9 or Rs. Can increase up to 10 crores. Now if CSK uses the RTM card they will have to buy Moeen at an inflated price. If CSK doesn't use the RTM card, Moeen will remain in Hyderabad at an inflated price.
In the 2018 mega auction, Bengaluru bought Yuzvendra Chahal on a right-to-match card.
3. 6 players will be retained for Rs 79 crore The purse limit of the IPL team has also been increased to Rs 120 crore, which was earlier Rs 100 crore. 18 crores will be spent to retain the first player, Rs 14 crores for the second player and Rs 11 crores for the third player. If only 3 players are retained then the purse will cost Rs 43 crore.
If the team retains the fourth player, it will have to pay only Rs 18 crore. And for the fifth player will have to spend 14 crore rupees. Retaining an uncapped player will cost only Rs 4 crore each. The last date for submission of player retention is 31 October 2024 at 5 PM.
If the team retains 5 internationals and one uncapped player, it will cost Rs 79 crore from their purse. If the team retains 4 internationals and 2 uncapped players, the purse will cost Rs 69 crore. If only 5 international players are retained then the purse will cost Rs 75 crore.
4. Rules tightened for foreign players Now foreign players have to register in mega auction to participate in IPL. If they do not register, they will not be allowed to participate in the next mini auction. If any foreign player withdraws from the tournament after being sold in the auction, he will be banned for the next 2 seasons. This means that he will not be able to participate in the next two auctions. However, if a player gets injured, he will not be banned, but for this he will have to take the permission of his National Board.
5. Foreigners will not get more than ₹18 crore For the first time the IPL had a rule on the amount paid to foreign players. Foreign players will not get the highest retention value of more than Rs 18 crore in the mini auction. Or if the most expensive Indian player in the mega auction is Rs. 16 crores if sold for Rs. Not more than 16 crores.
Suppose, Mumbai Indians retained Suryakumar Yadav at the highest retention price of Rs 18 crores. Now even if Rinku Singh was the most expensive in the mega auction, his price remained only Rs 15 crore. So the foreign player will not get more than Rs 15 crore in the next mini auction.
At the same time, if Rinku Singh is bought for Rs 20 crore in the mega auction, then MI's Surya won't fetch more than Rs 18 crore in the next mini auction. Here, foreign players will get the amount which is the lowest between the highest retention price and the mega auction.
However, the team can also buy foreign players by bidding Rs 20, 25 or 30 crores. The amount he bids will be deducted from his purse, but the player will get only Rs 15 or 18 crores. The remaining amount will go to the BCCI, which the board will spend on its players.
6. Dhoni will be able to play for Rs 4 crore due to the uncapped player rule The uncapped player rule also returned in the IPL. This rule was in effect from 2008 to 2021, but no one used it. Now she is making a comeback. Under this, the team can retain any Indian player who played his last international match 5 years ago as an uncapped player.
Like, former captain MS Dhoni who led Chennai Super Kings to 5 IPL titles. It has been 5 years since he played his last match for India in 2019. So, CSK can retain him as an uncapped player for just Rs 4 crore.
